Door Cards (wanted)

I've sourced cream leather seats [:)][:)][:)] but need some door cards ideally cream with black trim - or completely black. If you've got some I can give them a home.... [;)]

I might do, on the basis that the armrests won't fit with the full welded-in roll cage in place. I need to confirm what the boys are doing for door cards first, and let you know if a set of all-black ones would be available.

I'm currently looking for one for the drivers door, has to be black pinstripe. If another comes available after Colin gets his I'd be very thankful.

Id talk to Kev about the carbon fibre ones he has...

Colin,

As a suggestion, it would be fairly easy to recover the door cards you already have. I have made them for previous cars (Mk1 Golfs), but they are very easy because they are flat. If you were stuck you could recover the bottom of your door cards - the flat bits - with some careful gluing or stitching the new cover along the join with the top of the door card.

It's something I am seriously considering on mine.

Are these what you are looking for?

Colin, I've just confirmed that only the armrests are coming out of the car, the door cards are going back in, so unfortunately mine won't be available.

The alternative option of having carbon fibre door cards installed is a bit too expensive for me to stomach at the moment. [:)]

You could ask again: I noticed that a number of prices were mentioned: some starting £1xx:00...

I was quoted £440 for the pair...which right now, is much better spent on other mechanical bits for the car!

I have a pair of linen lower, black upper cards I will be looking to get rid of (or swap for really good plain black ones)

I also have a pair of carbon lightweight door cards that came from a 968 Club Sport race car...

I can put you onto a firm wholl supply you with a pair of carbon door cards for just under £100 delivered. Theyre flat, not formed like the ones that Kev has, so theyll end under the curved rib which sits behind the cap in a standard door card. Theyll look smart with a trimmed OEM cap if you ant the whole door covered and for £100 you cant go wrong.

That sounds like a good plan! [:)] Choices, choices...I'm suddenly spoilt for choices!

Simon P. - you have an email from me.
Simon M. - please drop me an email!

I will have to find the link for you, which may take a while as its on a computer that Im struggling to access at present. I havent bought any myself, but I would have done, had I not spent an age making aluminium replacements and trimming the caps to match...

Sounds similar to what I'm working on, although at that price those sounds remarkable value. If each door card is approx 1m by 0.5 and it's made from 3 layers then there could be 9 metres used for a pair, if making them yourself the carbon would cost more than that retail price (I think I pay in the region of £15-20 for a metre of fabric, albeit bought in small quantities).

Btw if anyone knows of a source of offcuts of aerolam or the carbon topped version (whatever that's called) please let me know, I want a small piece for the passenger footrest.

Theyre wet laid Pete, over a very thin GRP base. I wasnt surprised to hear that given the price (it was why I specifically asked actually), but considering that virtually all 'carbon fibre' hasnt seen an autoclave, I wasnt disappointed. They weigh next to nothing too: less than my aluminium and far less than the OEM door cards.

Simon.

That makes sense Simon, I have made most of my carbon stuff with a GRP layer too and it works brilliantly. My door cards are slightly heavier than I expected but they're pretty thick solid carbon so will do for now. I'm trying to work out how to mould a new dash, it's probably a bit beyond my abilities but I'm going to give it a go anyway.
