Door Catch Corrosion

Hi All. I have just noticed on my 1999 996 there are signs of corrosion underneath the Driver and Passenger door catches, inside the door shuts (B pillars) I know that this was once a common problem and I recall reading somewhere that a modification was made to prevent this happening. Could anyone offer any advice on this and what is best to do about it? Thanks
 
They now put a plastic gasket between the striker plate and the panel to stop the plate from breaking the surface of the paint if it rocks slightly. The gasket isn't available separately - I think it is just a plastic film stuck to the back of the plate. New strikers are £6.34 each - part number 3C0.837.767.A. Personally, I would remove the plates, touch up the affected area, and make some plastic shims slightly larger than the plate to sandwich between the plate and the body.
 
Dont waste your time trying to claim on your corrosion warranty. And yes it was a common fault as they forgot to fit the shims.

Bitter ........? .... mine's a pint [:mad:]
 
Thanks guys. Sounds like a DIY job then. So much for the corrosion warranty then eh?
