Hi, I went to open the drivers door the other day and there was a "ping" and the door handle/lever went limp. Before my ownership, the door handles were replaced with 968 items. I've stripped the door down and removed the door handle and it looks as though the metal bit that holds the linkage has broken off. Question is, do I need to replace the whole door handle, or can I buy/acquire the internal metal fitting and replace that part. I can still gain access by using the internal door handle (as long as I leave the window down!) Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

The answer is yes to both questions. Reverse lever is the part LH 944 537 261 00 RH 944 537 262 00 They are available from the usual suspects. I just got a near side lever off Porscahaprt's ebay shop for £15. Genuine part as well. They look different at the handle end from original. They have been improved. Still a **** to fit though.

despite many comments to the contrary, unless you have gynacologist hands, refitting the handle without removing the door card is a bitch - been there, done that on my 968 cab.

Thank you Chris for the comprehensive how-to - very useful. I would just add that a recent tech question/answer article in Panorama magazine (the NA Porsche club publication) recommended replacing with new parts only as "pre-owned" parts have a greater potential to fail and as Chris points out - this isn't an easy job so you don't want to have to repeat it cause you saved a little money with used parts.

You won't save much - I've often seen parts on Ebay for more than I paid at Porsche Tonbridge (with PCGB discount!!).
