Door handles..

Has anyone had to replace the door pull handles on their RS?

I want to make some RS style door cards for my C2 and get rid of the stupid arm-rest/box as the lid keeps coming loose.. Ive spoken to porsche and got the bits for the door opener and its surround, however the door pull handle is insane! Of all the parts I thought that would be the cheapest, but theyre £214+vat each!!!..

I've found some for 60 each from design 911 or someone, however thats still a bit steep for me. I found something almost identical except with a square cover over the mounting screws from a 1970-79 bay window camper, and these are just under £6 each (which is more like it)

Just wondered whether anyone else had come up against the same problem and had found a source for the correct looking handles elsewhere; Im sure they must be a parts-bin item (vw/audi etc..) as I can't imagine Porsche tooling up for something like that in such limited numbers, however I can't find anything.. Ive searched the golf's, polo's scirrocco's, etc., but no luck, and wanted to pick your brains before I give up and go with the camper handles..

hope someone can help...

Are you going to remake the door cards on your car??
The mechanism that you use to open the door from inside is very simple. Im sure somethin could be made easily enough with a strap that looks just as effective, loose the rod that attaches and run the strap in with a home made clip of some sort.

I made my own complete door panels for the car but decided to keep the arm rest pockets but re designed the rest how i wanted it. Look really good all built on the car. Covered in a heavy duty black vinyl with slight pattern, all new window switch surrounds to. These surrounds came from forrest fine so they may do the bits you want and are very well priced

There are some on ebay germany, full set including pulls, openers and the roses.

Also, Appbiz supplies a kit where you use your own (recovered) panels and attach his kit. iirc about $180

Or, try the 993RS ones. price from an OPC about £50.

Have you got a link for the camper ones? the original porsche roses (round covers) are £2ea from an OPC!!
For the door opener, I'm planning to make my own up out of some webbing available from any rock climbing store. You'd just need the pin and clip from OPC at about £2 again.

No, the door openers are ok; I just brought the bits from the OPC, I think it worked out £25 a side so probably the same as the 993 RS ones. These consist of the rosette's and the pull straps.

Its the actual grab/pull handles for shutting the doors that are £214+VAT a piece!!!

These are some camper ones which are on ebay at the moment, they are awaiting a new batch at the moment, otherwise I would probably have ordered last night. They are available from VW Heritage and people too for about a tenner each, however VW don't stock them; they are discontinued.

Im thinking that porsche wouldn't have designed a bespoke handle for the RS (its also used on the 993) as the volumes are quite low, but I could be wrong; if I was desiging an RS now, I would probably raid the parts bin for something like that.. Ive checked loads of older cars Ive seen recently, and also google images, but can't find anything the same.. Im wondering whether the part was originally a roof mounted passenger grab handle or something.

Hopefully some eagle eyed car nut recognises them!

I've checked through the parts lists on most models and cannot find a pull handle.

Apparently, the 64 pull handles were about £50 ea 18 months ago and Porsche decided to up the price to the massive price they are now. Prob. thought loads of people will buy them for the non rs cars!!!.
The 993RS ones are still the same price as they were originally around £50 but supposedly better made.
Here's the link for the ebay.de set http://cgi.ebay.de/Porsche-Umbausatz-RS-Tuerverkleidungen-911-964-993_W0QQitemZ320166426935QQihZ011QQcategoryZ99391QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

cheers for the link rob, I might have a look at the rosettes when they turn up tomorrow; I have a feeling the handles are the camper ones with the rosettes covering the screws.. Ill steal the handles off my mates camper, see how they look and report back!.. Might save someone a few quid in the future..
