Door hinge pins.

Hi all,I've found today that the drivers door is clonking, stop me if I'm being too technical, and I've traced it to the hinge pins.My question is are they easy to replace? Do they just drift out or is there any adjustment available, thanks in advance for any help.

They are apparently easy to replace - but when I took my 993 (I assume same as 964) to have this done my indy said "no, we'll just bag them in further and you'll be fine" and 2 minutes later I had perfectly closing doors again. He had a tool he fashioned years ago, and a big hammer in the other hand!

[FONT=verdana, geneva"]I'm sure you've checked, but did you also look at the door check arrester/strap? My door was 'knocking' too until I noticed that the arrester bolts were a tad loose. Tightened them up and knocking gone...

Just to second the comment on door check strap - just make sure this is intact and then preserve it because it's not cheap to replace these since they are welded 'from the back' so access to effect a neat repair is dificult. Not had the hinges done so would refer to opinions of others on this.

Best of luck.

Must admit when we had our 964,at one time I thought that the driver's door was getting sloppy-I checked the hinge pins & felt they were not fully fitted when compared to the the passenger side (which clearly gets less use ),so I just tapped them in more using the flat sided square bar which came with my hinge pin extraction set, & a hammer.
As I recall,it wasn't possible (nor probably sensible) to tap them fully home so that the head hits the top hinge.

Thanks for the replies,it is definitely the hinge pin,I did look at the hanger bolts and they are tight so I took hold of the door and lifted it and you can feel the knock and see the movement within the hinge.I'll take the hammer, which will be calibrated and certificated,to it this weekend and post if that's sorted it,thanks again.
