Door Lock Barrel Info

Further to my thread HERE, I have an admission......

My interest in replacing the lock wasn't 'cos it was "sticky". I discovered a couple of weeks ago, whilst tyring to lube the lock (which was jamming momentarily at "full turn" unlock or lock) that I could open the door with the key only partially inserted. Scary.

I then realised I could activate the lock with the key only in a smidge. Really scary.

Then I realised I could activate the lock with a key, the imobiliser key, a screwdriver, a KP disco etc etc. REALLY scary. []

I'd been leaving the car pretty much "unlocked" for approx 5 months of ownership. [&:]

The honourable Mr Fen Coull sent me his old boot lock barrell ~ top gent that he is.

I can now confirm however that the boot barrel and the door barrels are NOT interchangeable. [] [:D] Door barrel screws in, whilst boot barrel is held into the body with a pin.

Not to worry - stripped out the old barrel (without even fully removing the handle ~ just as others had advised) and found it heavily corroded / gunged. It looks like it had been rusted / vandalised and someone had forced the key in ~ effectively jamming the barrel pins in the open position!

The genorosity of Mr Coull was not wasted however, as a combination of pin cleaning, and stealing the pin springs from his lock has provided me with a working item again.

Public thanks again to Fen, and also to danmason, Darren (flamingeye) and everyone else for info, guidance and links. [8D]

No problem. If it was of some use to you then it was worth the 60p or whatever to post.
