door lock barrel out

Quick query for the mechanically minded. At a recent service it was pointed out that the dor lock was seized - didn't matter since the car alarm blipper works but they kindly freed it up. A little too well as things turned out. I opened it recently with the key and when I withdrew the key it had the whole barrel lock on teh end of it. I can insert it back into the door but don't want it to simply rattle out and cost me a bundle for a new lock and a different key (South Oxfordshire DC road maintenance being what it is). There must be a trick to securing the barrel in position. Does anyone have any ideas?

I would say take it back to the people who "freed it up" and get them to do it properly (i.e. without it falling out!)[:-]

Firstly the barrell shouldn't come out from the outside--so I agree those that freed it up have compromised it in some way.

If the barrel is ruined then it is possible to buy a replacement possibly from a second hand spares place or from an OPC--the concern being to match it to your existing keys----I had a 2 barrels rebuilt by Porschapart for my 964 about 18 months ago--to suit my key and this cost £25. So there should be no issue with key matching

To get the barrels out--if you want to do it yourself requires you to remove the inner door card--gently peel back the plastic film--and remove the door handle--should take about 30 - 45 mins to remove.
