door lock numbers

Where do I find a key number for the door locks? Do I have to take the whole thing apart or can I see it once the trim panel is off?

I've never had a key that fits the doors or tailgate, just relied upon the remote alarm thingy, but as that's playing up I'd like the security of having a method of manually locking/unlocking the car.

The key code for cutting a new one is in a peculiar place. I seem to remeber that it is stamped on the ring of the indicator wiper switch assembly, or on the igniton lock casting, maybe also on the lever that attaches to the door key barrel and actually operates the lock. If you have the original lock set Porsche are able to cut keys from the chassis number. They did it for me at Reading OPC for A32 NFX when it was about as old as yours is now Phil.

I'll check with the OPC. As far as I can guess the ignition must have been changed at some point because my keys fit that and that alone (i.e I can't do the tailgate or either door lock with a key).

Assuming they are all original, I should be able to get a key for the doors, which will get me out of a hole should I ever go a lock the car with the keys in (which I did on Saturday, luckily the tailgate was only resting down, not latched shut)

OPC can do it from VIN. Because I can't be sure that the locks are original it's a gamble whether it will fit or not. Their most recent experience with a customer that swore his locks were original was that it didn't pay off (the keys did not fit)

At £50 +VAT for a key I don't know if I want to gamble that much. Might talk to an Auto locksmith, see what they can think of.
