Door Lock Problem

I appear to have a broken/ disconnected part of the door handle mechanism. The passenger door was working perfectly well the other day, even on the central locking from the drivers door. Now its resolutely shut.
The tab inside the door only goes up and down about 3 -4 mm. I understand there is a linkage that can break or become detached within the handle mechanism.
How do I get into the mechanism with the door shut?
It appears to be impossible to gain access without destroying the door card? Is the fact that the lower edge and trailing edge fixed with poppers a clue to gaining access. The leading edge has a screw at top and bottom that cannot be accessed with the door shut. I think you would need to be a contortionist to get in via the rear/bottom edge of the card

Hi Eddie,
It's a long while since I've had the door card off, but I would suggest that you take the door card off the other door - the one you can open - and have a good look at how the locking mechanism works. From there you might well be able to figure out how to open the stuck door with a bent coat hanger down between the glass and frame so that you can then get the door card off the other side. Sorry can't be more specific, but that's how I'd proceed in the absence of any more detailed advice.

I would also print out the lock details from the Porsche parts listing-you will see from this that the button just screws onto a straight (but cranked ) 3-4 mm dia rod approx 150 long (from memory ) with a "L" short bend at the lower end which fits into one of those plastic pliplock
receiver sockets mounted in the locking lever of the lock IIRC.Alternatively it's a plastic housing that fits on a ball joint on the lever.
If gripping the plastic button carefully with pliers using a rag insert in the jaws & tugging upwards doesn't release the lock,then method above should do it-there isn't anything in there until the lock.

You can tell this spiel hasn't relied on me looking first at the said parts diagram.[:D]

 
In the last few months I changed the wafers on my drivers door lock and reassembled the lock and handle back in the door. At the time I didn't realise that when I fixed the lock back in place a previous owner had put an oversize screw in. So when I closed the door the oversize screw actually jammed the mechanism and I couldn't get it open! I was facing up to the same dilemma of how to get to the works without destroying the door card. But luckily through pulling up on the button and fiddling with the door handle the lock did eventually pop open and that's when I found the problem with the wrong size screw and I realised why it was so loose when I dismantled it!
