Door locking advice please

Hi. I have just joined this forum and this is my first post..
Anyway, I have a 2003 cayenne that I bought about 4 months ago. The wife is getting increasingly annoyed that the doors cannot be opened from outside if she has just nipped out to the shop while I sit in the drivers seat with the engine running. I have to put it in park and switch off and remove the key. That doesn't seem right to me. I have played with the auto lock function but I'm not sure if im switching it on or off.
To annoy her further, the climate has decided to only heat the drivers side of the dash and the passenger remains cold. Is that a temp servo motor at fault?
Ant advice would be great.

Hello

The doors automatically lock when the car moves. To enable the doors to unlock ie to gain access from the outside into the back doors for example I have to push the unlock button. This is on the drivers door near the grab handle on the arm rest. It's the button with the picture of the car with a door open.

Your car may have dual zone climate control. If it does then each side of the car, ie drivers side and passenger side, have their own temperature controls. To increase, or decrease the temperature of the air to be the same coming out of both sides then the temp shown by the buttons need to be the same. If only the right hand side button is used to increase the temp the left hand side will stay at the same temp. Bizarrely the overall speed of the fan button will change if you use either ( left or right button) and is not zone dependant.

Hope this might help

James

Thanks for the speedy answer. I have not even noticed the button on the door... What it the auto lock on/off function on the wiper stalk for then? Is it on if the little box is "ticked".
As for the climate, yes it has dual zone. No matter what I do to temp control the passenger side will only blow cold air. Driver side works ok on hot and cold.

I got hold of a new servo motor yesterday. Apparently the glove box has to come out to replace it and its a bit "tricky" to do. We shall see. Watch this space...

Right. I took the glovebox out to change the servo motor. Before I did, I gave the old one a clout with a tapometer. Hey presto! Warm air to passenger side. I don't know how long it will last but I think if I adjust is from HI to LOW every week or so it should be ok.
