door membranes leaking

daws

New member
Hi had a problem with my membranes on my boxster, i have had new ones fitted but it still leaks water, i took it back to my indie and he said it is because after market speakers have been fitted and the water is running down them.
I have tried for months to rectify this, with taping up the edges of the membranes with duck tape, and even fixed heavy duty polythene inside the speaker housing , so any water coming down onto the speaker runs down the plastic and not onto the speaker. still it leaks, i have repeated this several times adjusting it every time to hopefully get it right, but still it leaks.
Also my wifes car has suddenly started to leak aswell, took the panel off hers tried the same as on mine but it still leaks.
She has the boxsters s panels on it, but is a 2.5. with no speakers in them. It is really doing my head in, i don't think taking it back to the indie will make any differance as he will only want to replace the membranes again and can't see what else he can do other than what i have already tried.
Any help with this would be greatfully recieved. regards, dawson.

It took me 18 months to convince my OPD that this was a problem with my new Boxster S when they eventualy agreed after replacing the door seal instead !!!! Porsche refused to pay for it !! coz it was 8 days out of new car warrenty and customer relations refused to pay

Guess what ?

Sold the bloody car

Porsche as a company stinks !

I know this does not help you but yes its is a problem and its got sod all to do with speakers - its just crap manufacture

It is leaking under where the door speakers are fitted, My wifes is the same, but she has no speakers behind the door panel grills. She also has the membranes which has no cut out for the speakers.
I have put some plastic sheet behind where it is leaking, so as to redirect any water away from the door panel bottom and into the drain holes in the door,
but all that done was to let water in at the bottom of the door panel further back.
maybe it might be worth going around the membrane edge with silicone sealant, but might be messy to take off again in the future.
thanks for the replies guys.
regards dawson.

The membranes should be supplied with the self adhesive tacky sealant alredy on - this should secure them perfectly well.

Failing door membranes normally result in the carpet at the base of the door panels getting wet- is it the carpet that is wet or just water escaping from the bottom of the door card where it meets the metalwork ?

Yeh, it is the bottom of the door carpet that is getting wet, it is then dripping on the plastic trim below, and then down the side of the carpet.
The new membranes dont seem to have sealed very well, it has a white sticky seal all around it as opposed to the originals which had a grey sealant around it, which seemed to be better at sealing.
regards dawson.
