door mirrors

just wondered what you guys think of my mirrors, be as rude as you like i won't cry! bonus points if you can tell what popular car they came off.

got it in one, i wanted somethig a bit different and there aren't many cars with door mounted mirrors nowdays and these are all i could find with the right door angle. i quite like them over the originals.

Well, they may be back in force, as a relatively recent EU legislation has apparently now made compulsory mirrors mounted on the doors to improve visibility. Might have been motivated by A-pillars getting ever thicker.

They look pretty good actually. I've been trying to work out if MX5 ones would work but never got round to doing anything about it. Can't see on the photos: have you kept the original bases or used the mini ones? Any mods required to the doors if you have used the mini ones? Tim

used the mini bases and they have nice rubber gaskets too, no mods to the door but a few mods to the mirrors. the mirrors look bigger in the pics than in the flesh.

I think they look ok, similar to 968 mirrors. If you could find a way perhaps to shorten the base they`d look great. I`ll have to say (as a non member []) I think flag mirrors date the cars somewhat and teardroptype mirrors look great from the front sort of streamlining the car in my view.

There don't look too out of place. Assume they're heated and wired up to the joystick?

heated yes. the mini uses an ecu to give the motors the correct polarity for movement in all directions so i didn't wire them up. no doubt it could be done but i'm the only driver so set them once and never touched them again, how often do most people move their mirrors?

I like adjusting the offside mirror to see how close the wheels get to the pavement when I park, in order to avoid scratching them.

I have a set as well that are waiting to go on, I think they are no bigger than cups though the bases are longer, was also considering last shaped mr2, audi tt, hyundai coupe, but the mini ones arrived at the right price. I think the lack of depth in that picture makes them look more chunky than they are, Tony

You have to lodge them on the web - in your own domain or on flikr or similar. Once on the web you just put the address in the image tab. I think the mirrors look rather good. My elephant ears are looking extremely sad now and must act like little air brakes sticking out the side. The originals date the car more than anything else IMHO.

I think I actually prefer them to teardrops, they look more modern at least. I'm sure you could hard wire up the adjustment mechanism - the ecu still needs to tell the mirror which axis to move. Maybe you could hook in an ecu as well and maybe get the folding option?
