Door removal issues

Trying to get the drivers door off my S2 in preparation for starting the sill replacement. I've removed the interior panel and disconnected all the wiring from the speakers, locks, windows etc but I cannot get the door wiring loom to pass out through the hole in the door! I've released it from all the clips but cannot for the life of me pursuade it back out through what I presume is the way it went in.

What I don't want to do is to unbolt the door with the wiring loom still in situ as I will then be left trying to hold the door and tease the loom out at the same time.

Am I missing something? I was wondering if there might be a multi-pin connector somewhere down in the depths of the footwell where the door loom plugs into the main loom and I could leave the door loom in the door?

Thanks for any guidance on the matter.

You remove the plug under the dash and take the cable away with the door.

If you follow the loom as it passes through the door and into the door pillar and then along the top of the inner sill ( behind the carpet) you will find a plug up near the bottom of the fuse box. You unplug it there and then pull the cable back out to the door and remove the door with the loom still attached to it.

Fantastic, Thanks! After posting, I had taken a quick look on PET which shows the door harness having it's own part number. That convinced me it was going to be a plug in extension of the main loom and you have just confirmed it.

Now I've just got to put all the door back together. So glad I spent an hour taking it all apart before asking the question - another lesson learned.

No problem. Remember when dealing with this forum there is no such thing as a stupid question,or one you can't get an answer to. We are a friendly non judgmental bunch. Unless you ask about the fastest colour or which model is best.[:D]

Had to do it the other way round on mine as I was replacing the door and I can tell you it is a Royal pain in the ass.
