Door seals

Hi, I have just bought some new door seals....are they difficult to fit and is there anything I need to know? Would I be better getting them done by someone with some experience or can a complete incompetent, like me, fit them?

Thanks

Hi Dave what seals are they?
I have just put a complete set of seals through out my car so all door seals have been rebuil and to be honest anyone can do them with ease.

New door seals seem to have cured my water leaks - I just pulled the old ones out and "refitting is the reverse of removal" as they say. I haven't bothered glueing them in yet - they seem to stay in place quite well on their own.

I'm going to order some door seals and replace mine - took a door card off today and the bottom third of the hardboard backer is damp - but I'm 95% sure it is "rising damp" from water gathering in the bottom seal having run down the a-post part of the seal - not damp coming in through the door membrane because that looks OK (no sign of obvious leaks in through its normal openings and it looks in good condition).

Question: How do you get the plastic "foot guard" off? - I mean the plastic strip that runs the length of the bottom of the door opening and holds the door seal in place along the bottom - the rest of the door seal look like it's a push fit but the bottom part is held in by this plastic trim with no obvious screws of clips.

Thanks
Mark

Mark it slides out. From memory it slides out to the inside because mine becomes unclipped at times esp when clumsy getting out of the car and my size 11's crash into them.

Anyone who has fitted a door seal know how large the package is they they arrive in - are the rolled up or are they fitted on a door-shaped frame to keep their shape? (I'm just wondering if they will fit in my 993 to get them home from OPC!)

Hi Mark

When I bought my Targa door seal it is totally different to normal door seals but fits on the front seat or the floor without any issues.
