door stuck shut..

OK, we had the boot stuck discussion, so not im starting the door stuck thread!..
My passenger door (o/s) sometimes gets stuck. If you pull the exterior door pull handle fully when you open the door, the little lever goes floppy.. (there is no need for any jokes about asking pele for help, this is a serious problem [;)] )

It only happens occasionally, but it seems like the mechnaism gets stuck, and to open it again I have to do a special combo-move of twisting the interior door lock/unlock wheel and pulling on the interior door handle. Due to the porsche engineers making the lock/unlock wheel from left over razor blades, this usually costs me some skin on thumb and index finger plus some swearing, but I can usually get it open..

This normally happens when Im in a hurry to go somewhere, and as its the passenger side its usually my better half who does it (although its about 1 in 50 for her, and about 1 in 3 for me). She is starting to think Im having a go at her, but really Im just annoyed the car does it, not that she's done it.. [:D]

Anyway, does anyone know what this could be and how I could improve it? It did it last night to me, except currently the door can still be closed (locked); normally the door catch jumps into the closed position when this happens so the door cannot be closed without resolving, using the super special combo move...

I have tried greasing everything and cleaning bits up, but this hasn't helped, and I can't see anything obviously wrong when I remove the door card... Drivers (n/s) door is fine..

Ben,
Not that i have experience of this, but from what you describe it sounds like it's the door lever mechanism it's self that is sticking in some way. The lever not returning once pulled would indicate this, to me anyway without actually seeing it. Unless anyone posts up with other ideas, i can only suggest removing the inner door panel to view the mechanism to see whether anything looks untoward and possibly re-lube all the moving parts.

I had had trouble getting both the drivers and passenger doors to close without slamming them, until i applied a light lube to the door cam and pillar catch,. they now both close a treat first time.

Hope you resolve it [;)]

I think you should celebrate your 'super special combo move', I'm yet to discover mine.

In Tekken on the Playstation the various characters use their special moves to overpower their assailants. Think of your twisting action of the lock/unlock wheel as training - strengthening your fingertips for more effective 'purple nurples' in times of attack from wolf-headed agressors. [;)]

hi
Sounds like something is bent in the catch. I would replace the catch as there are loads of small piece that are easily lost if you try to take it apart (springs etc). I think that it is held in with 3 screws but you will have to disconnect the rods going to/from the door linkages. Easy fix but can be fiddly.

A can of WD40 needs to be available when you get to the mechanism and give it a thorough spraying. (Or even a can of Spray Grease which should lubricate even longer).

Cheers,

I could seriously twist a nipple clean off with my training [:D]

I was looking at one of our doors at work today and I think maybe one of the rods in the mechanism might be bent.. Im getting the cards off sometime next week as rob h. has inspired me to finish off my rs door cards, and I will take a look then.. thanks for the idea's guys..

ps.. fred, i have some nice spray grease; I find wd40 type oil is only good as a penetrant [;)]
