Door trim

Can anybody direct me to a useful book/guide for interior trim work ('82 911 Targa)? The particular problems at the moment mean I need to remove the driver's door trim panel, and I'm stuck as to how to loosen the (?)screw fitting on the front inner of the door bin. The door lock operating wheel and the escutcheon behind it then look like the next problem.

I've checked the Haynes manual, bit it's a bit vague to say the least, especially for this novice!

Thanks

Martin you'll find the bin is held on by a number of cross headed screws along the underside and also via plastic blocks front and rear at the top edge. As I recall the handle is joi9ned to it again by screws and is easisets removed at the same time.

The door lock wheel has a plastic cover insert which needs to be levered out using a small flat blade screwdriver to reveal a screw through the wheel into the metal bar which operates the lock. (I used a blunt stanley knife blade first time but an electrical screwdriver is better.)

Good Luck

Thanks. It's the plastic block that's the problem. It appears to have a screw aperture in it, but it's position in the bin means you can't get even a short handled screwdriver anywhere near parallel with the screw to get purchase on the head. Am I missing something, i.e. do the blocks unclip in some way rather than unscrew? Or is there a particular sort of screwdriver for accessing screws in positions like this?

Thanks again.

Martin I think you are trying to undo the wrong screw there are two in the plastic blocks. The large round hole you can just see is the one that fastens the block to the door. The screw you want is on the END of the door bin out of sight, feel where the plastic block is and you will find a screw at right angles to the other screw hole going throught the pocket into the block. It's always possible someone glued it on I suppose. If you still can't do it email me and I'll go throught it with you on the phone.
BTW you can buy screwdrivers with right angled tips, very useful even Halfords sell them.

Ah, right! I'm sure that's where I'm going wrong. Thanks for your offer of help - I'll get in touch if I'm still stuck.

Useful thing, this forum.

Cheers again

Martin
