Door Trims Problem

I cleaned the inside of my 2000 S this weekend. I have just noticed that the lids covering the door pocket have a plastic film covering them. The plastic film is peeling away in the edges and lookd terrible. Has anyone had this problem? Can you buy replacment film or is it a new lid?

Thank you.

Yes Drivers side on mine...

And depsite warranty etc, I had to buy a new one.. I think it was about 50 euro including VAT - so I guess about 30 quid or so then...

The only problem i discovered is that to fit it, you have to take the doorcard off - as it screws through from the inside. And asI've got an airboag, the part is still in the box - waiting for the next time the car goes in...

Yes, my offside door pocket cover is doing the same on my MY2002 Boxster S. It happened when I went to Le Mans 2 years ago. It was my sunblock that did it!

I have found that this stuff can do a lot of minor damage to a host of products. Eg: My movie camera decals (icons showing what buttons etc were for) were wiped off too!

So now I wash my hands after every application of sun block. I carry baby wipes in my car for this reason.

As for the lid, I have applied Autoglym "vinyl and rubber care" to it and it looks a lot better for a while. I just keep reapplying it when it looks tatty again.

If you're worried about taking the door card off just because of the air bag, there's no need to. Disconnecting the battery earth lead means that the air bag will be disabled so that you can work to your heart's content on the door card [:D]

I've had this happen to my 2001 S. It to happened after Le Mans in 2005. Mine blistered due to the extreme heat and no car cover. I got a replacement from one of the Porsche breakers yards in the UK. A local independant fitted here in Barcelona (labour @ 20Pound/Hour). He explained the sequence of screws etc. To be undone. Took him 20-30 minutes: A call to a friendly OPC service dept. and I'll guess they'll tell you the sequence. If they don't let me know and I'll ask my guy when he get back from holiday at the end of the month.

Cheers Richard.

P.s. Also got a replacement sun visor form the same breakers. Saves a few beers. Fitted that myself. What a star!!

Hi,
I've just had to change my drivers side lid for a similar problem.
The soft touch finish started "skinning" must be duff ,not sure why but its not sun creme or mechanical damage-I doubt its heat either as its garaged.I'll send the old one back to OPC.
Cost was £25 for part-10mins to fit ,you can slip out the hinge pins so no need to remove the door lining to change the brackets, its just a bit fiddly with the spring.

Peter,
Was that £25 from your OPC?

Interesting that about sun block , the spray stuff I got some on the roof and rubbers on a 993 and it never came all off, and last month on a hot day (unusual for Scotland )I got some on the rear parcel shelf blind on my estate and cannot remove it, hundreds of small white dots so apply your sun screen well away from your car
