Door window problem

I' ve got a 99 Boxster S which has never given me any grief until now.

The driver' s side door window pops down as it is meant to when you pull the handle but then pops back up again so when you go to close it the window stays on the outside of the rim.

While searching across the web I have found out a couple of possible causes.

1. There is a sensor that tell the window if the hood is up or not and when this gets dirty or damaged wierd stuff can happen. - I didn' t think it was this because only one door is faulty.
2. Water sometimes gets in through the door seals and over a long period of time can short bits of the electrics causing wierd stuff to happen. - I didn' t think it was this because I have never noticed a build up of water.

The car has to have a service in the next couple of months in which case I am sure they can fix it but was wondering if anyone knew of something to try in the mean time.

There was a thread " Electric Windows" on 26/03/2003 on this forum about something similar

This problem although not serious is just damn embarrasing!

Having to hold the door handle up and pump the side of the car with my body to get the door closed is bad enough but climbing over the gear stick from the passenger side is getting in to the realms of the dukes of hazzard.

I' m going to have a go with closing the windows automatically with the keyfob from the " electric windows" thread as it sounds very cool. Sad I know, " cool" but I' ve got the model without the cup holder so all alternate little features are to be exploited.
