Doors not opening now it's frosty

Today we had our first frost in the SE. When my other half tried to open the door of the car it took ages to open as the window couldn't drop as it had frosted up. I guess we aren't the only people who use our convertible in the cold weather, does anyone have any suggestions as to how to stop this happening again.

Thanks for that. Someone else has suggested using PTFE tape but I thought you used that for plumbing.

Opening the door is easy- its closing it again from the inside thats the problem !
Won't silicone grease smear on the window and be impossible to remove ?

That's exactly what my other half keeps saying, which is why I am asking on here.

Possibly your other half is thinking about solicone that you get in the large tubes for sealing arounf sinks and baths etc. Silicone based lubricants aren't the same, they are about the same consistency as WD40. Spray some on a rag and then use the rag on the areas that need coating - that way the excess doesn't go everywhere.

Cheers,

Fred,
I am a bit worried about all your talk of rubbing a silicone laden rag on the areas needing coating-still each to their own.[:)]

I think you can pay for that service, cash only mind you, numbers can be found in many a phone tooth [8D]

hey guys I assume the silicone spray is good to spray on the door seal anyway to stop the squeeking noise as the window goes up following a door close?

That noise usually means that the window regulator cable is on its last legs and will snap soon. However, looking at your sig I guess your boxster is too young for that to happen so there's no need to worry (usually starts to go after about 4 years).

Regarding the icing up problem, I just use de-icer spray and leave it for a couple of mins before opening the door. I've used de-icer on every other car I've owned so don't see why I shoudn't treat my boxster any differently.
