Using just over 10% of available extra power and in his daily road car complete with air con and ashtray, our popular Brett broke the UK 1/4 mile record yesterday whilst raising money for Help For Heroes.

Former record holder Adrian Clarke told Brett today he's improved his car and looks forward to breaking Brett's record in turn.
Brett responded saying breaking Adrian's record a second time will be a pleasure so there's lots of fun ahead!!

Yes the full story is in the link. I like your Ford Anglia Alex - I remember buying one for 5Ă‚ÂŁ when a student and it was brilliant - 85mph top speed and 45mpg. Really hurt when I had to pay Ă‚ÂŁ1 for a windscreen wiper which is all I spent on it!.

Bournemouth Echo published story yesterday: [link=http://www.bournemouthecho.co.uk/news/8288820.UK_speed_record_for_car_azy_Brett/]http://www.bournemouthecho.co.uk/news/8288820.UK_speed_record_for_car_azy_Brett/[/link] Brett's next goal is to beat the top speed for a standard Porsche road car (currently 206 mph for V10 GT Carrera) which he's confident of achieving.

Hopefully Brett's been reading EVO this month with a road legal drag car that can be used.. no noise issues etc... It might be in a different league to what Brett has planned but shows it can be done.. garyw

ORIGINAL: tscaptain I reckon this is faster [link=http://www.supercars.net/cars/3109.html]http://www.supercars.net/cars/3109.html[/link] and probably as close to the original Porsche as Brett's![;)]
(Edit by moderator) Currently a Dorset car holds the 928 1/4 mile record. PS Edit: Mind you looking at the figures given on that supercar net page of 0-60 in 3.3 secs, the S2 did 0-60 in 2.92 secs confirmed.

Well actually I'm from Devon, who are also a friendly bunch, but as it clearly upsets you for some reason I will delete my earlier posts. My congratulations to Brett for having the fastest 928 over a 1/4 and for being in Dorset.[;)]

Thanks. That's magnanimous. My Dad came from Devon, will have to pop into a meet if I'm around. Also I should have made it clearer that Brett's next attempt is something of a special - 'Modifed Classic vs Standard Modern' Porsche.

Alan, Roland, Thank you both for not starting another forum war on the subject of Brett. I will edit or delete posts that are not in keeping with the intended spirit of this forum. Cheers,

Sadly, this is the case. I reluctantly let my fifteen year membership lapse as I share the outlook Ferry Porsche had, that car manufacturers exist to supply, not command, customers. As for the query on timings, it was a sensible question and I do apologise to tscaptain for getting stressed - I had to get a thread in Pistonheads deleted after I was daft enough to post there! The 0-60 timing was done using smaller wheels. As Brett told some chaps from Dorset region at Poole quay, smaller wheels would have been better at Thorney Island. Knowing Brett quite well, I personally believe he used his wheels for top speed because he prefers the colour of them.

Apology accepted and rest assured I have no axe to grind with anyone on here. I am simply curious as the newspaper article was not particularly enlightening.

Well the Daily Echo published the article on p3 next to pictures of a naked lady with a chunky rear end drawn on a flyover. At least Brett can console himself with the fact that at least his story appeared before the one about the groping claim against Gazza.

A bit raunchy for Bournemouth isn't it? [:D]

They have a grockle editor (I'm sure he won't mind that appellation appearing here, he's proud of his roots!). At least they have a reporter who's heard of a 928!!
