Grab your Davy lamp and 'snap' tin and join us on a tour of the National Coal Mining Museum for England on 24th February!

The museum is situated on the A642 near Overton between Wakefield and Huddersfield. Entrance is free and tours start every 15 minutes taking around 1 hour to complete. More information is available on their website www.ncm.org.uk

We plan to meet at 11.00 am with a view to getting everyone down t' pit by 11.30.

Afterwards we will take a short drive to The Woodman at Thunderbridge for Sunday lunch. The Woodman is a very popular local inn with a good reputation for food and has extensive parking.

The museum would like to know the number of people attending about a week before so if you want to come along either post below or let me know by e-mail at r7@porscheclubgb.com by next Friday, please.

Looking forward to seeing you there.

Irene and I will be there, looking forward to going down another type of mine, done gold and salt already

See you on the day

All the best!

Hi Ian

Thank you for your letter dated 8/2/08, Lorrane and I would like to meet you all at the NCMM, followed by the lunch at the Woodman Inn, unfortunately Lorraine is not keen on confined spaces, therefore she dose'nt fancy the trip down the mine. If its OK we'll have a look around on the surface as from memory there is plenty to see.

Steve & Lorraine

I quite fancy this, especially as I live in Wakefield anyway.

I would want to bring my little lad along who is only two, do you know whether it is suitable for someone so young - ie I expect it may get a bit dark! but do they consider it safe and suitable for toddlers to come along too?

No worries if you don't know, I'll just contact them directly.

Thanks

Hi Lee

According to their website children under 5 aren't allowed underground. Looks like he'll have to wait a few years!

Ian

Best regards

Hi all

I have now confirmed our visit to the mining museum on Sunday 24th for 18 people. We need to be there for 11.00 am and will all be able to go on the same tour. The tour should take up to an hour and a quarter and there will be plenty of time to have a look around the rest of the museum. There are no special clothing or footwear requirements but make sure you have something warm to wear as it's cold down there!

The drive to the Woodman should take no more then 20 minutes so I have booked the lunch for 2.00 (for 21 people) which should give us chance for a drink and a chat beforehand. I have e-mailed the menu to all that are attending. Could you please let me have your choices before Sunday. If you don't get the e-mail but read this post, please drop me an e-mail and I will send out the menu again.

If there are any last minute changes or problems, please let me know by e-mail.

See you on Sunday.

Ian and Sharon
