Downshifts on PDK box taking 2 attempts

Unlikely to be the button as you say it's only the 7-6 change has the problem it could be in the bottom of the box or the control rack, take it to the OPC for a diagnostic check that will show them history and what the fault is, if it's intermittent etc. It should take less than a day unless the box has to come out. I had an overtemp warning and the sensor was changed in a few hours inside the bottom of the box.

I have noticed that it sometimes takes 2 clicks of the shift button to change from 7th to 6th, after driving some distance, on the PDK gearbox. This only seems apparent when changing from 7 to 6 which makes me think that the shift button is not intermittent. The car is only 6 months old so I can take it to the dealer but wondered if anyone else has noticed anything similar ?

Thanks

has the car gone into full automatic mode? Are the gear selector lights showing on the dash or just D (drive)?

The first click will effectively wake the PDK and the second will start the operation, I use PDK (paddles) all the time and note this - especially when car is in 7th and cruising, 2 pulls to change down and then paddles are back in normal use mode (1 pull up or down selects a gear).

I think this is normal behaviour but maybe take it to the OPC to check if it happens outside of the scenario above.

Cheers, Colin

Hi both

Yes it shows D and is exactly as you describe Colin so maybe the way it's intended to work.

I have my driving day at the Porsche driving centre in Silverstone in a week so will ask them but the scenario won't happen at the circuit As it only happens when I have been driving for some time,

If no joy I'll call into the Cardiff Centre for an opinion as you suggest Kevan.

Thanks

Keith

So from what has been said above I take it you're driving in auto and using the paddles or buttons to override, like Colin I mostly drive in manual mode but occasionally select auto and sport mode as it's useful in traffic maybe there is a difference in the program of the 987S PDK and your 981's apart from the throttle blip but if the stick is to the left it should stay in manual mode if in auto each time you do a shift it should hold in manual for about eight to ten seconds then revert to auto unless you do another shift, it will downshift automatically in either mode to prevent stalling but in auto it is quite brisk about it if in sport mode. I was at the experience centre a few weeks ago in a 981S and you can try all scenarios there is plenty of opportunity apart from extensive cruising of course but they will teach you a lot more than you expect, it's an enjoyable and useful experience and you'll come away even more impressed with your car, enjoy.
