After winning our on-road head-to-head test, can the Range Rover's incredible off-road ability slay the supercar-rivalling Porsche Cayenne Turbo? Sutcliffe heads off road to find out.

I would have preferred to have seen the "Tests' carried out by two drivers competent in off road driving.

To wheelspin on wet muddy grass is the easiest way to clog any tread with mud and irrespective of the vehicles capabilities.

They may as well done the test on a Ice Rink and clocked the 0-60 Times !

Agreed. Propper off road track with experienced drivers would have been a lot more informative.

Slamming your foot to the floor to go up a hill is a poor test.

Very poor comparison indeed.

Both cars driven very differently, did you notice the line he took with the Landy, lets dive along the bottom of the hill then head up! And then the "lets try drive straight up the hill" in the Cayenne.

Well what an interesting, yet irrelevant test. Could talk about the fact to make it fair both should have started at the same place for one. The fact the new RR don't have locking diffs and uses an e-diff ( where the system applies the ABS to get traction) is in no way better than a genuine locking diff. The KN's tyres were pure On road, where as I noticed the RR's had a slight All Terrain look about them..... hmmm not that convinced.

I currently run a MB G500 G Wagen and was up at a mates place and the ONLY car that could keep up with us was a Porche Cayenne (he had some Cooper LTZ AT tyres on), the RR and Disco's were NOT in a good place, much to many jokes etc made. Sadly have to get rid of the G, so having looked at all the various OR's available that are not Jap stuff, the KN has really impressed me, two of the G Wagen owners I know have them, and if the right tyres are on them, they are an amazing vehicle and MUCH better off road than any of the new Rangies.

Just out of interest anyone here mad enough to take theirs off road? (I would be aiming to do so with mine once I have it)
