Earlier this week a boyhood dream became real and I have joined the fabulous Air cooled gang. I am not new to Porsche, this is number 5, but very new to air cooled, so sorry in advance if I ask dumb questions.

She is a 1987 (MY88) targa in guards red, the last owner looks to have taken great care and I intend to do the same.

Hopefully meet some of you at events.

Looks stunning (and there are no dumb questions, not asking is the dumb thing to do when unsure ;))

Thanks, I took her to work today and loved every second.

I don’t know if I need to start a new thread, but the only thang that began happening today was when starting the engine, it starts straight away, but it sounds like the starter motor isn’t disengaging quickly enough making a horrible noise? A new starter was fitted recently and not really been used, maybe it will clear?

Thanks

Not easy to diagnose by email and not hearing the noise firsthand....could be solenoid or bad ignition switch (start should be under spring tension, after you let go it should revert back to "run" and kill the 12v to the starter, retracting the solenoid)

Thanks, my first thought was ignition switch. Interestingly I just found in the folder from the previous owner a receipt from February that says “trace fault for starter motor over run found to be faulty starter motor, replace and test”

Looks like it wasn’t that…

Mark.
