drilled airbox

i have recently bought a 993 c2 with an airbox which has had a series of 1/2 inch holes holes drilled into the rear section (probably about 25). now i dont really know what this does other than, (i am told), increases the noise of the engine when under load - which the previous owner seemed very proud of.

can anyone tell me whether this has an adverse affect on anything. i recently took it off and noticed the air filter was extremely dirty (only replaced in may) and am wondering if this is a result of this and am also wondering if there are any other consequences.

any thoughts would be gratefully received.

IN TRUTH NOISE IS ABT IT ! might sneek a couple of extra bhp , will be part of the reason ur filter dirty ..........dirty filter and how fast it gets dirty very dependant on type of driving u do ...............

Hey.....I like the crome on the airbox, I think its worth the extra money just for that bit of chrome[;)]

Same here. Nice cold (colder) outside air for my engine. [8|]

Is there really that much difference in the temperature of the air going into the big hole at the front, and the 'extra noisy induction' holes at the back?​
Gotta be a massive 6 or 7 inches apart, so what's the estimate, 1 maybe 2 degrees colder?? [8|]​
If one really wants colder air, one should attach a pipe to the airbox and connect to air scoops on the outside of the engine lid perhaps. [;)]​
Just speculation, no offence meant. [:)]​
 
Holes made no differance,tried it many years ago.
Try the 993 turbo snorkel,just clips into air box and straight up to the rear spoiler air louvers,will not work on flappy spoilers though.
 
I fitted a snorkel on my old RS, when I had my car on the rolling road it didn't make any difference to power.......the point of it is to ensure cool air goes into the airbox, apparently if warm air from the engine bay gets above a certain temperature (i have forgotten exactly) the ignition is retarded losing a few bhp. So on a warm day you may get more noise and less power out of your drilled airbox [;)]
