Drilling discs

I haven't made any useful posts for a while, but I've been collecting some pics.

Anyway, I noticed my front pads / discs smelling a little 'hot' the other day. Cheking the pads they were fine (fairly recently changed anyway). The discs were changed not all that many miles ago as well. Upon further inspection I noticed that the vents and drilled surface of the discs were blocked with brake dust.

Taking the correct sized drill I set about drilling out the holes, turning the disc around and giving it gentle tap with a rubber mallet to get the dust out, and there was a lot!

After completing and testing, the smell and heat had gone! Later looking through the history I found out that this is common practice for OPC's to do. Just thought I would post up as it may be worth checking sometime.

to my good wife this item's a scent diffuser, to me those strips of wood are perfectly square ended for pushing out brake dust. She has asked why some are missing, she's even more concerned now i'm photographing it, think the games up, I may have been tumbled.

I keep meaning to do mine too, but im putting it off til we get that week of good weather lol. I would guess your brakes are now a bit sharper too.

2 x trackdays in 5 days gets a bit of build up !

should help cut down the disc cracking

mind you, I'm off to PF floating & 6pot now... :)
 
Yup, feels much better now Chris :) Bit of a messy job but well worth keeping on top of I think.

6 pots would be nice David :D
