Drip drip ... should I worry?

I have had a small oil leak on by C2S (49k) which I have had forpast 6 weeks. Difficult to tell on passive inspection basis where its coming from as it seems to be dripping from several points towards front of engine and to the rhs according to my spead newspaper mesasure! Difficult as this area generally hidden by some form of plate/shield ( sorry I'm a 993 relative newbie). Loss is smallish ie probably 1-2 pop bottle tops worth at most each time I would guess and comes post a drive - which is really weekend only for me. Basic question is can I just ignore as small amount as long as it stays that way ( told most do this anyway to some degree "" true?) or should I take it to local P doctor for a proper assessment as bad things may happen if left. Next service not due for a good while.
 
sounds like the oil filter from that location......

nothing to worry about as if it leaks then the oil filter (made in the USA) is at fault....

an easy fix..... and if you're using Mobil 1 stick to 5W/40's instead !
 
Could also be one of the seals getting a bit tired.

You could run it in for a quick inspection and get them to tighten up the cam cover bolts, just in case.
 
Try removing the engine undertray. It's quite an easy job, just one screw at each side and a couple at the rear edge. The undertray tends to catch a great deal of the oil emitted from the engine and can sometimes lead to you having a false opinion of where the oil is coming from. With the tray removed, you can always repeat the newspaper test and gain a better picture.

I personally wouldn't be too bothered about the oil loss. As a wise man once said, all 911's should leak oil! [:D] It's part of their charm! I've replaced two rocker cover gaskets which stemmed virtually all my oil woes, although I have heard of a car that had the infamous double gasket syndrome at one of the oil filter locations. Thing was, it had only ever been serviced at a certain OPC in the south of the country, so one of their teccies had obviously been a bit sloppy [&o].

The other factor to consider is as Sundeep says, the grade of oil in the car. I personally find the very thin oils too searching in the 993 engine. I made a swap to a 10w40 and haven't looked back since although as ever, oil is quite an emotive subject.

Thx for feedback guys - as ever the depth of experience and knowledge is impressive and very helpful to a newbie. Perhaps we should have a document under FAQ section entitled 'everyone gets this problem at some point' - so I can tick them off as 'done that' as they happen and look forward to the next in line. I can say I dealt with a dead cell in my battery causing big alarm & immobilizer fun and games all on my own last week. Forum recommendation of Costco Bosch Silver worked a treat. I'll do the tray off check at the weekend. FYI am running 5-40w from last service as took broad consensus from forum last time to ditch my default Mobil 1 and went Silkolene Pro.

I assume jobs being mentioned here at no big expense "" cam cover sounds non trivial? Unfortunately I am bit purist so will probably be compelled to get it sorted.

If your any sort of Diy,er,then working on the car is not as hard as you would expect,my c2 has done 100,000 miles and has had a few oil leaks.
Get the car pretty high at the back and on axle stands,the engine and gearbox undertrays are very easily removed.
The lower cam covers are do-able and each gasket including 11 new allen bolts is just over the £11 mark,you just have to be very careful not to round the allen heads on the old bolts.
As said above the oil filter(engine) can leak a tiny bit,also there is a pipe just next to and below which is held in by a 10mm bolted clamp which has a rubber washer that can leak a tiny bit.
The only other thing i have changed is the oil pressure switch which is in the engine bay at the back down behind the airbox(which will need to be removed)(easy).This can leak and run round the engine and drip from the places you describe.This is a £50 fix.
Oh and the rear main oil seal(behind clutch) can leak,but unless you are getting clutch slip its not worth bothering with until you get a clutch replaced.I think its only a £5 seal.
This is the list JZ Machtech Gave me and my engine is bone dry now[:D]

I shall be interested to hear how you get on. I have a similar problem. The car was leaving a drop or two on the ground when parked up but I took it to my specialist this week and he could not find the source. He put it on the ramp, thoroughly cleaned it, ran the engine and left it overnight. No sign of any leak in the morning. He repeated the process with a test drive but still no sign. I guess I need to carry on driving at get it looked at again at the next service.
