DRIVE IN AID OF CHARITY ?

[8|]Hi

Just exploring the idea of a Charity Drive with Porsches'. The idea has come about as I was due to take part in a charity run next month, but due to injury have had to pull out. As I was also intending to take part in a track day this summer I wondered whether a charity element could be incorporated. Something along the lines of say : meet at Brands Hatch , drive to SPA, then Nurburgring and back in x no days ? Forbidding the Cannon Ball similarities , maybe even something simpler but challenging ? Is this something we could roll with ?

I'm sure Mark would welcome the initiative but in reality it has proved hard work in the past. We did the the Ring about 4 years ago which included a stop over in Amsterdam - hotel arranged with secure parking by an ex pat. In the end only two cars went, myself and Nic, and we met up with Mark and Claire at the Ring.

Thanks for reply.

It's a shame we drivers do not seem to have any charity run organised. There are some fantastic vintage Porsche's, yet a drive for charity does not seem to appear on the calendar. I believe even the Mini Club ran a charity run. Surely there would be quite a few Porsche suppliers or other exclusive product suppliers willing to pay for a logo on a car on say a charity run from London to Brighton ? Maybe I am just naive!

I think it is a great idea. The mini owners do a Charity run every year. Last year they went down as far as Italy and raised lots of cash. They are currently inviting VW owners to join them on a run next year as you described, BH to Ring.

Suggest post some dates and then see who/how many want to join in.
I'll be up for it, esp. if the Ring is included.

I would propose that time is not an issue and that you accept only PCGB owners so that the same mental approach is taken like at track days. In other words, keep the racing (sorry, driving fast) to the circuit (sorry, single direction toll road).

Keep the idea alive. You are not alone.

PS - Last night I went on a 'local' VW run to Telford where 63 Vans and Beetles turned up and all drove to Ironbridge and back. Great atmosphere. Free food afterwards at the pub and then a drive home.

Slightly differant drive ..100 Porsche drivers took out Children with Leukaemia on a Fun Day Out around the east coast near Edinburgh we even had a police escourt all the way about 6 motor bike and 2 traffic cars holding up the traffic to give us a clear route and the best bit was seeing the kids faces priceless, sadly some are not here with us today ,a very humbling experiance
