Drive shaft noise's ?

Took the 911sc out for a spin last week and after a few miles I could hear a sound coming from what appeared the left rear wheel, in no time at all this turned into quite a loud knocking noise.
I stopped and found it stopped as well so obviously this was not coming from the engine, so started moving again and the noise re-appeared, it sounds like it's coming from something that rotates.
I have just checked the wheel bearings and all seems fine so delved into the drive shaft's, the left hand one appears to have plenty of play, a lot more than the right, the question is am I looking in the right area, is there anything else I should be checking, and if it is the drive shaft do I have to remove the hub and brakes or can I slide the shaft out with out doing this, I know it's hard to ask for a diagnosis with out seeing the car but all advice will be much appreciated.

Cheers Baz

Cheer's bones least I know i'me looking in the right direction, can you tell me if poss how much if any of the hub do I need to take apart as have found it is all a bit tight, especialy for putting in any new part's.

Cheers Baz

pse, nice to hear somebody else has come across the saxo driver!

It may be a dry CV joint but that is only likely to happen if the gaiter has split and chucked out all the grease. Remove the inner bolts to the diff flange first then push the shaft away from the diff, then remove the whole shaft and CV joint from the stub axle flange. If you don't know what you are looking for when you inspect the suspect CV joint get a workshop to look at it for you; use a new gaiter when reassembling and pack with grease.

Do what i did.(see my thread)... get the wheel taken off brakes and hub off clean up and replace.... bingo no noise...dont ask me how it just stopped..... i was the porsche gods
