Drive shaft question

Sounds good, I got a very noisy cv joint but can't locate which one is buggered, going to buy a complete driveshaft with both cvs on and fit it to one side, if the noise is still there then I will just swap it over so I only have to buy one!

Unless yours is an auto which have different part numbers for the shafts you should be alright and I have no idea why the auto has different shafts.
Changing the cv joints is so simple, remove one circlip mallet the cv off clean up the splines on the shaft fit new cv which has been dosed with grease & circlip. I did all mine on my 924 in under a morning. Much the same. To all intents and purposes the cv joints should wear at about the same rate but inevitably one will wear out first so if you do swap shafts then sooner rather than later I expect you will be changing the other one.

Or even... try swopping them over side to side and re-pack 'em.
Sorted mine out before, years ago, on my first 924 Turbo.
This is logical, if you think about it, as the driveshafts are rotating in the forward direction much more than in reverse.

Worth a try before buying the other bits[;)].. unless they're really knackered[:(].

Did that on mine to see where a noise was coming from - 1 was obviously new , noise went from power on, to on over run.
Will get round to change it soon......

Well mine are well and truly *****d knocks on power on and off and sometimes even in neutral (coasting)[] just bought complete shaft from porsche-apart so fit that on Monday got 50/50 chance of getting the right side first time but as always the law of sod will prevail! Just can't locate which side the noise is coming from[]

How much was your shaft?
Des 911 £158
separate joints £50
An OPC might even be able to mach individual joint prices. For example the column switches on my 911T (996) were cheapest from OPC Reading.

Good point about swapping over, got a complete shaft with cv's second hand low mileage one £50 delivered, can't argue with that, will clean it up and re pack it with grease before fitting
