Drivers Carpet Wet

I have a 1998 C2 Tip S and having just vaccumed the car for the first time (only bought it a couple of months ago) I noticed that the drivers carpet is wet. This explains why the windows are occassionally misted up on the inside. I only use the car the odd weekend and find this very frustrating. Any ideas?? Have checked around under the dashboard and can't find any drips or wet patches. Thanks, John

does the car have a sun roof ? when i first got my car the electrics were playing up and this was traced to the sunroof drain tube having a hole in it leaking water onto the back of the fuse box took a while to find as my carpet was not wet and they expected it to be if the drain was leaking or blocked

It could be a ruptured door membrane, or the front drains (either side of the battery) are blocked.

If you take off the covers either side of the battery (1 x T20 Torx screw) and find a pool of water in there, that will be the problem. The manual suggests a vacuum cleaner or air gun to clear the debris.

Thanks for these tips.
Will have a good look again this next weekend as too dark now to carry out inspection.
Had a similar problem with my last Boxster but put that down to convertible roof
Thought that buying a 996 would get rid of this. Yes, I do have a sunroof so will check that.
Just been out to cover the car up for the week and noticed windows misting up already.
Thanks again. John

Would it cause any further problems if the tubes either side of the battery tray were missing?

If the carpet at the bottiom of the drivers door cars is wet too then the door membrane has either split or become detached.

Can it still be the driver's door membrane even though the car has been stood for awhile? If it is the membrane - where can I buy a new one or can you just tape it up if split? John

The membranes are pretty cheap fromt he OPC. You can reattach the old one if it isn't split, but its a pain to remastic the old one, and as you have the door apart its as easy to replace for peace of mind.
