Driver's door lock

Out of the blue, the driver's door lock won't lock or unlock when I turn the key. The key turns no problem in both directions, it's just that the locking mechanism doen't engage or release. I'll try to get the door panel off this evening to see what's up, but does anyone have any suggestions/pointers for when I do?
 
If you mean frozen as in very-very cold, then no it's not. It's currently in a nice warm basement car park. I'll have a look at 101 Projects to see how the workings are set up. I believe there's an article in there on rekeying the locks, that may point me in the right direction.

I had the same on my car some time ago after I changed the door handle. There is an actauting rod that has a ball joint on one end and a push fit plastic cup. Could be the joint is worn or just came loose.
