Andy...haven got an answer for you just a question...I am looking at a 2007 2.7 auto....any advice re the auto box and what kind of effect it has on the value...th mileage on the one I have found is circa 30k ...cheers Stu

Hi Stu I am sorry I can't help. I have no experience of the auto box on Cayman's. I have the PDK gearbox which was introduced in 2009 I think. Cheers Andy

Just wondered if any other Cayman owners have a persistent driver's door rattle ? I am about to book my car in to Portsmouth PC to have them
look at it. When I first drive off all is quiet, but within a few miles the rattle starts. Have tried in vain to isolate the offending part externally so
I have come to the conclusion that something inside the door/ window assembly is touching the side window glass. Anyone else had this problem ?

Hi Stu I don't know anyone with the auto box in a Cayman. For what it's worth, I have driven a few 996's with tiptronic but that was a long time ago. I would say from memory the tiptronic was fine and if you do a lot of stop start town driving it makes sense. However for pure driver enjoyment/engagement the manual gearbox on the Cayman is superb. Might be worth test driving a manual Cayman before taking the plunge ? If you get a chance, try the PDK box too. It's very good ! Cheers Andy

Hi, I've a 2012 Cayman R and have rattles from cold - to be honest it was what I expected from a car with suspension as hard as the Cayman and I find the engine noise drowns them out when I start to enjoy myself. Rattles all seem to come from the passenger side dash and behind my head somewhere - never can isolate them. I'm going to mention when in for its first service next month (2 years old in Sept). I also think I've got the fabled 'trunk clunk' - counterbalance weights moving in the rear tailgate but will get that checked too. Other than that, still love the car and the PDK is exceptional. Cheers, Colin

I too have had the same condition for a while, although it comes and goes. Rough surfaced roads tend to bring it out. A while back I did some research on Planet9 and I found a number of posters describing a similar problem, referring to a spring that is part of the internal door pull mechanism. It slackens over time or completely comes away. Further research at the time revealed a very thorough step by step pictorial guide on how to remove the door trim and replace - although of course I can't find it again right now! If you're having the OPC take a look then maybe worth mentioning this? PEte B.

Chaps, Here's a useful article describing the procedure for removing the door panel: http://www.planet-9.com/reviews/cayman-cosmetic-mods/p193-door-panel2f-finisher-removal.html Jeff

I have a rattle too on my Cayam R which seems to come from pass side behind the door. Only just had the car so haven't investigated yet but will let you know if I find it, otherwise service in Feb for the OPC

I think I found the rattle on mine. The cubbyhole on the passenger rear was missing one of the rubber bump stops on it
