Drivers Seat Motor

Anybody got any idea of how to remove the front driver's seat on my S2 and anything to look out for so that it all goes back again once I am done?! The front motor is stuck fully up and it's driving me crazy, pretty uncomfortable to drive too!
 
Hi Tom, and welcome. I've moved this to the general 944 forum rather than the technical articles.

There are six bolts to the seat, one at the front and two at the back in each runner. I've not taken one out myself, but it should be pretty straightforward. One thing to consider whilst you're fiddling around with the seats is to swap the driver's and passenger's backs over. This evens out the wear on the seat bolsters.
 
McNulters is on the money. Six bolts and you're out.

BUT

Before you take the seat out make sure that the electrical connection underneath them is disconnected (it plugs into a socket on the seat) and take care lifting the seat - it is PIG heavy and you will be lifting it and twisting it at the same time ...

When it is out the workings are very clear. It's worth checking connections - both to motor and seat - to ensure that they are all OK. And check the switches with an AVO meter as well. If all else fails, try applying 12v to the motor directly using a battery charger.

If you really can't make it work then you can wind the front of the seat down by hand. The seat sits on a pillar at each corner, which is threaded, and the motor spins the pillar to raise and lower the seat. The pillar has a notch cut in the top of it and it can be wound very easily with a screwdriver. It's tedious, but not difficult.

Paul, thanks for moving my post. As soon as I put it up I realised it was in the wrong place! Also, good tip on the seat backs, I'll certainly do that!

Oli, thanks for that, as with everything Porsche most things seem purely mechanical (mainly the reason I went for the car!) so I have every faith that I can at least do something with it. Presumably the electrical connector is to the switches on the base of the seat. Like you say, I'm sure it'll all be pretty obvious once I'm in there. I'll let you know how I get on.

Tom, the motors rarely go, the usual culprit is the seat switch, especially if the motor has went all the way up! The hardest part about changing a switch is you have to open the seats connector and change the wiring over from old to new switch. Must be worth another how to guide!

All done! You'll be pleased to know that it's all fixed!

As it turns out it was just one of the wires to the motor had split from the connector at the motor end and in hindsight I could have fixed it without removing the seat! Still, I removed the seat regardless.

6 bolts indeed but bugger me were they tight! One had been tampered with too in a previous life and they had managed to strip the allen head. Trouble is, I only discovered that it was not coming off AFTER I had taken the seat back off (to swap with the passenger seat)! So, seeing as I had no spline extractor I had to put it all back and take it to my local garage who took it out FOC. By the way, if you're ever in need of a damn good garage in Sheffield who are just good, reliable, and super trust worthy mechanics let me know, I use them all the time. Then it was back to my workshop to finish the job including a much needed hoover up of the carpet without the seat in!

Makes such a difference. Thanks for all your help, that's one of the little jobs off the list!
