Drivers Side Dipped Beam Not Working

Hi all,

Wonder if anyone can help me. I have a 1998 996 with standard headlamps. The drivers side dipped beam no longer works although the side light, main beam and foglamp do work. I have changed the bulb and even swapped the working bulb from the passenger side into the drivers side in case I bought a dud. Still no joy. I swapped fuses 9 and 10 around in case it was the fuse but still no joy. As it is just the dipped beam I am stumped. Are there any relays for either side headlamp as I cannot for the life of me think what else it could be. I can't see it being the switch as the other lights on the drivers side work. Any help appreciated as I'm often mistaken for a motorbike when dodging through London traffic now ! Have also removed and refitted the headlamp a dozen times in case it was a bad contact. Scratching my head profusely now.

Thanks,

Lee

I had a similar problem with the sidelight.
It turned out the litronic headlamp loom falling over the main connector just as the lights were slipped in. Holding this out of the way with a rule until the unit was almost in has fixed it.

I know you said standard, so it can't be the litronic loom - but is something getting in the way of the connector, or is the connector actually in it's mount "straight"?

hello

I'm in Rochester Kent so quite a long way off. I have a wiring diagram from Richard Hamilton and at the minute I suspect the lifting mechanism. Going to check it out at the weekend and get a meter on the thing !

I fixed it ! ! Thanks to Richards diagram I found a black 21 pin connector on the drivers side inner wing. There was a poor connection there which I just roughed up and cleaned and the lamp started working again. Now all I need to do is replace a broken headlamp lifting motor for the nearside lamp.
