drivers side window bounce

Offside front window on my '99 996 cab has taken to bouncing down approx 12mm when closing the door. Also the interior lamps remain on ( because cars thinks its just about to be opened) , although the overlhead lights can switched off manually, the door guard lights cannot. (risk of battery discharging)
The car will not lock off the key fob (horn sounds to advise alarm not armed). Manual door lock functions but the window opens and closes 12mm every 2/3 seconds. Car currently unlocked not good. Any ideas please.

Sounds like the door handle switch (that makes the window drop normally) has come loose and when your going along rattles and activates the window drop function.

May also be that water has go into the switch.

Anyone else have any ideas ?

Paul may well be correct (there are about 7 contacts in the door!). You should be able to lock the car with the emergency locking procedure. Turn the key to the lock position and back three times in quick succession. That probably won't close the windows, but it will make it a bit more secure. You really need to get a PST2 test done to show any faults in the system.

Will investigate acordingly. Have to say only fault started following the weekends relentless rain, it stopped for a couple of days and started this morning following the rain!!!

Check for a wet patch under the passenger seat where the alarm control unit is located. This is a common problem on Boxsters (and presumably 996 Cabs) when the rear water drains get blocked.

Looks like I am having to get a PST2 test as latest is all windows lower in unison if car left parked unlocked on drive way or in garage, and today boot and engine cover remain locked in what ever circumstances!!!

As Richard said, sounds like the control unit under the seat is acting up. The windows, alarm, locks, and I forget what else operates through this control unit. If your are hooked up to a PST2/PIWIS the unit can be checked for faults.

As Richard said, not an uncommon problem with the Boxstir because if the top drains are clogged water can get under the seat. Electronics and water do not mix well. I do not know how water would get under the seat on a 996 cab unless your roof was open during a flood.

TP, I don't know much about the roof system on a 996 cab. I know there is a drain system at the rear as shown in the pictore. I thought that if the rear drains got blocked (like they can in the Boxster) maybe the catch tray could overflow. Where it would go I don't know....

Did not know a 996 cab had a drainage system like a Boxster until I looked at your image. But then all I know about a 996 cab is that it looks like a fat Boxster

We have a drip/catch tray under the top made of black foam and the lowest part of the tray has a drain on each side of the top. When those drains plug up the water has to go somewhere - into the cockpit and under the seat is where it goes. Common problem on the Boxster.

Since Jeremy said it had been raining he should follow your advice and look for water or dampness under the passenger seat.

Area under passenger seat is dry, problem has stopped occuring for now as instantly as it started ?! I am begginning to think it must be loose connection possibly in the drivers door lock mechanism. Will moniter and have to find someone with a tester before stripping drivers door internals! Stupidly in haste thought boot and engine latches had frozen do to same problem. But suspect because I effected the manual lock/unlock procedure this must have effect of protecting both compartments from access?? Key fob working therefore central remote locking fine therefore access to compartment fine again!!!
