Driver's window won't close...

Returned from 2 weeks in Florida yesterday...

Car had sat in my garage for the duration and started on the button, so took her for a spin.

Heard a feint crunching noise when lowering the driver's window but thought nothing of it, until I came to close the window.
It got about half way up, heard a feint crunching again, and it lowered ("bounced") again.

Car now back in my garage pending a repair (hopefully this will be covered by my non-Porsche warranty, but if not, I'll need to fix it myself)...

Any suggestions as what has happended?

Mine did a similar thing and it was the regulator that was broken. Cost me £180 fitted at an OPC. I had the OPC warranty but it wasnt covered.
 
There is probably a problem in the gearbox of the window drive, but as Philip says, you have to replace the whole "regulator", This is an assembly of the gearbox, tracks, cables etc. I'd say £180 was a good price, because you have to strip the door almost completely to change it.

Why does it not surprise me that it isn't covered by the warranty?

thanks guys. I'm kinda getting to used to regulator failures - it happened on both of my previous vehicles (Golf, and MGF)! I thought I might escape such a repeat experience with what is purportedly the best engineered car in the world!

I've contacted my warranty company (Black Horse) who say it's not covered - thought this would be their response, but it appears no worse than the response I'd have received from the OPC had I taken the significantly more expensive Porsche warranty option.

So, a trip to the OPC tomorrow to purchase some parts, and Saturday afternoon stripping & rebuilding the door.

ASFAIK, I need the regulator assy and a replacement door film...

Does anyone have any further tips on other items I might need, or hints or doing the job?
In particular how simple is the glass re-alignment (I've got a cab).

Experienced something similar which meant replacing the regulator, cabling, membrane, etc. - £147.45 plus labour plus VAT. Happy days!
 
Ok, all sorted. [:D]

Purchased a new regulator, foam membrane, and some spare clips (just in case!) from my OPC - not surprisingly, these are all stock items.

Spent 3 hours doing the job, but that included replacing the external weather strip (that runs along the top edge of the door, down the side and underneath) as this had been causing some problems, and hence I'd bought a new one off ebay some weeks previously.

I made sure I marked the position of the old regulator on the glass, and ensured the new regulator was located in exactly the same place as the old one (the bottom fixings, which are accessed from the underside of the door, are adjustable) and it all worked first time - no additional adjustment was necessary.
Isn't it nice (but rare) when that happens?!
 
Noticed the airbag light on the dash is remaining on...

On searching the forum I found this gem from 2005, from Richard (Hamilton)...

"If you disconnect the airbag, and then switch on the ignition, you will get an airbag fault, which will need resetting with a PST2. "

Oops. That'll be me then.

Fortunately, it's going in to the dealer for a service tomorrow so with any luck they'll reset this via PST2 for no charge.

Reading out the fault memory is a specified item in the service schedule. This will show that the power has been disconnected, and they should erase the fault code. I doubt if they would charge you, as it takes about 10 seconds to do.
