Drives in Aberdeenshire

What glorious weather we have had this weekend. We went for a drive from Inverurie to Ellon via Oldmeldrum then on to Pennan for lunch and back via Turriff and having virtually met no traffic we were absolutely chuffed. Looking forward to the forthcoming drives in and around region 2.

Sincerely

Last year I camped for a couple of nights at Tarland (great pub, folk music sessions on a Tuesday night) and explored this part of Scotland which I confess I do not know well. A stretch of the B9117 between Huntly and Turriff along the banks of the River Deveron was simply fabulous.

You HAVE to drive over to Braemar then down to Perth over the Devils elbow. It's an amazing drive and very spirited.

I was playing golf at Spey Bay this afternoon, I think I have sun stroke!

Yes, John I remember the B9117,excellent piece of 911 road, I'd passed over to my better half and I have to admit she drove better than me as I'd been driving an Audi A6 (canal barge) Avant (tip) all week, it took me an hour to really get in to my driving and of course I got all the rough stuff ......ahh the wail of the flat six....roll on Summer

My sister used to live i n Turriff and yes, a lovely run indeed albeit I did it a few years ago with an XR3i convertible not a Porsche [8D]

A long way to go for tyres John [8D]

But worth it. Best prices I can find anywhere, great family business (Turriff Tyres) and I always get fantastic service. Plus I get to have lunch in the Dairy in Inverurie [:)]

John, can you give examples of prices ???

Cheers

This is from memory, but I was looking to buy two Goodyear eagle F1's. Locally the best I could find was about £120, whereas Jim at Turriff quoted more like £90 for the same tyre. His son Julian runs the alloy wheel dept, and I bought a set of Cup style alloys from him years ago for my VW Beetle which are still going strong. He recently quoted me £500 for a set of 4 17" VW Golf GTi replica wheels, (the latest Mk 5 style) complete with tyres. Just nice folk to do business with too.
