Driveshaft boots

Had a bit of a surprise when servicing my Boxster today: looks like three of the driveshaft boots have split fairly badly and urgently need replacing.
Has anyone any experience - good or bad - of using the type of driveshaft boot that is pre-split and then glued in place. The idea is that you don't need to remove driveshafts etc which is fairly appealing.

I've heard of them but couldn't comment on their suitability. I do however have a similar problem with inner and outer boots on one side of my car. A friend of mine is going to be replacing them tomorrow - I hope! He says it looks to be a fairly straight forward job. I'll be along this time tomorrow to comment on how he got on! [:-]

Jimso, I'm keen to hear how you get on with that. On mine, the inner driveshaft flange bolts look very rusty to me...

Well, it all turned out quite interesting really.

A while ago I posted this...

regarding damaged boots on one of the driveshafts. Bryn very kindly mailed me extracts from the manual as to what was required. I purchased new Boots from East London OPC (proved easier in the end but at the ludicrous cost of £50 per pair), and left the car with my mate to get the job done. He hadn't had it 15 minutes when he called to ask why they needed replacing! No damage, no cracking nothing. Inner and outer Boots just fine on both shafts.

Why was I thinking they needed replacement? Because I was advised I had two damaged Boots when the car was serviced at East London earlier this month. Make of it what you will. I have of course spoken with the guys at ELOPC - they have offered a full refund for the returned, unused Boots! []

After a little investigation, I think I'll give the pre-split driveshaft boots a miss - I've heard a few bad reports.
Next question then is can I use universal driveshaft boots or is something special needed?
