I know that on front wheel drive vehicles if you have a driveshaft joint gone, you can get the noise occuring on full lock.#
With rear wheel drive on 944 if the joint is worn, will you always get the noise or would it be more intermittent than a front one?
Hope I make sense[:D][:D]
I have an S2 gearbox fitted in my Lux which is great, however the clonk/doink noise at the rear is doing my head in.I have just bought a pair of s2 shafts (wondering if there is a slight lenght difference)I have checked all suspension and links at rear and there is no sign of play or wear and I hope Iam going in the right direction with the shafts.[]

Well, I've had worn C.V.s, and brutalised driveshafts, but the symptoms were not as you describe them. Are you sure it's not your rear anti-roll bar mount, or something to do with the exhaust?

Is there any possibility you have flat spotted one of your tyres? I know this sounds unlikely but I did this recently at the track and it was as if someone was underneath my seat kicking me in the butt. I was imagining all sorts of problems and it just turned out to be the tyre. As it was only a minor flat spot it was hard to detect on the ground but this definitely felt like a mechanical issue.

Hi there, put the car on a nice level piece of road, stick it in first gear and rock the car back and forwards,it helps if you can get some assistance for this, you should hear the noise if it is drivetrain related,if you hear a noise try and do the same on a pit or ramp while looking from underneath. put a bit of muscle into rocking the car as if it only a small bit of play you may not hear it,hope this helps,John.

I had a 'clonk' on mine which was cured by tightening the bottom bolts for the rear shocks. They were already tight but an extra nip stopped the clonking.
I take it the spare wheel is secure? And the transaxle rubber mount is in good nick.
As far as I am aware all the late offset drive shafts are the same length.

Did you check and re-grease the the cv joints before fitting the driveshfts?
