Driving Holiday in GB

After some advice please.......

Looking to spend a week driving in mid august.
Not sure where to go yet, but will probably head for some sights in both Wales and Scotland.

Does anyone have any experience or recommendations on good places to stay in both Scotland and Wales and also some good driving routes.

This will be our first trip in our 911 so looking for some good drives, good sights and good accomodation (without breaking the bank!)

Any recommendations are greatfully received

The roads through Wales are fantastic - beautiful scenery, great surfaces and some of the best driving roads. As a start, try the A470 from Cardiff through the Brecon Beacons and up to North Wales. Once you get to Brecon, virtually every turn off offers a great drive. Generally speed camera free too but watch out for the sheep!! There are a few nice places to stay on the way and offer a nice break to enjoy some good walks etc

I have been there to see friends several times and can vouch for the excellent driving (as can the majority of car magazines that have shoots/drives up there regularly). The people are also very friendly which should help make the trip enjoyable.

Let me know if you decide to go there and I can point out some other nice roads and places to stop.

Regards

A470 then A44 at Llangurig towards Aberystwyth...great Valley road where you can overtake going round corners [8D] only because you can see the next two miles of road!!

I went to Uni at Aber and it is a fun little town with a few guest houses and hotels

Cheers

i'm of to wales next weekend. should get some good wheel time. bought a camera to take some pictures too.

The road from Bala to Trawsfynedd in north Wales is one of my particular favourites,.

Be carefull in Wales in the summer though, as the boys in Blue are only too aware of likeminded driving enthusiasts that go there specifically for thrills.

And watch out for motorbikers storming around the bends on the wrong side of the road coming towards you at 100mph, North Wales seems to be a particular favourite of theirs aswell !!!

Went to Scotland 2 years ago and the driving was superb! We went via Fort William to Mallaig and caught the ferry to Isle of Skye - a superb island, great driving and we stayed at a fantastic hotel http://www.taste-of-scotland.com/viewfield_house.html where the owner really does look after you. Gong for dinner, great food and everyone joins in the lounge for pre and after dinner drinks. Old fashioned but really cool.
The ferry across to Harris in the Western Isles (previously Outer Hebrides) wasn't too long and we had some super driving on the Isle of Harris. Isles of Uist and Benbeula were different, but the driving was great.
It really is a must to do and we want to get there again when we can spare the time / funds!
I'm sure that Tony Flint of Callandar Classics (not sure that is spelt cright) will be able to help you. His number is in the last edition of PP.
Watch out for the midges though - they bite deep!
Cheers,
