Driving Route to the Italian Lakes

We are thinking of taking the Boxster on a run to the Italian Lakes next summer. Any recommendations for "must see" passes etc to pick up en route ?

There was a post on this forum some while ago with tips on driving itinerary, but it seems to have dropped away, I guess must have been >365 days ago.

Any suggestions much appreciated.

Andrew

Hi Andrew.
We've been to the lakes the last two years, taking different routes. The first year we went via the Simplon Pass from Brig in Switzerland, having done the Andermatt loop (Grimsel/Susten passes) previously. Last year we went via Austria, doing the Glossglockner Pass down to the Dolomites. Here we did a number of passes, Passo de Giau being one on the way down to Lake Garda.
Other passes done include the Furka, petite and grand st Bernard, Col de Liseran, and one of my favourites being the Nufenen.
Next year I'm considering doing the Route des Grandes Alpes down to near Nice and then up to Garda.

Paul.

Try the Grimselpass or Furkapass (the one used at the beginning of Goldfinger) in Switzerland. They are both good drives and of a decent length. You could combine them with a third pass in the area to make a circular tour for a day.
Strong tip: lower the roof!
Have fun [;)]

We’ve done this several times
drive frm calais to Stuttgart for porsche museum visit and lunch then down to como/ Garda/ maggiore
via any of the passes above
we usually spend 2/3 days taking in 5/6 passes before heading to Italy then usually take route napoleon from grasse to Grenoble great drive then from Grenoble across to Annecy then up to Strasbourg for a final night
enjoy
