Drove my first 996 - Is it a real 911?

A well set-up 996 is a glorious drive. It sounds very different to its predecessor, but has a charm all of its own.
With early models now approaching 20 years old, it must be seen as a classic.

totally right.
a classic.....the turning point for Porsche and we understand why......fab..

Would have sounded even better if it had had PSE. 3.6 quite a lot more torquey, too.

But overall, nice video and good reference to 964; just like the 964, they were wrongly maligned, are great to drive and cheap to buy; perfect for a 911!

I reckon 996's are now largely owned by true enthusiasts who have dreant of owning a 911 for a long time. Absolutely love mine. The general appearance of my car at 18 years old is amazing as it's largely all original bidywork, although there are a few mechanical bits of fixing up I've had to commit to. Even so for a 'mass produced' car iits inherent quality and performance are quite an achievement!

Also a little curiosity, on paper the 3.4 outperforms the 3.6 in a straight line to 60 - I've often wondered if the 3.6 was slightly de-tuned as a result of some of the early 3.4 problems, although I appreciate in the mid range the extra torque probably adds a little something extra!

Apparently the 3.4 and 3.6 respond particularly well to a tune/re-map, so maybe they were detuned as standard?

I think mine was done by a previous owner, as it really pulls hard but revs so sweetly too.

Thanks for the nice comments guys. i think these cars are well underrated and really enjoyed my drive!
