DSC SPORT Best handling upgrade ?

Hello,
I have read several reviews about this upgrade on Porsche cars with PASM. Everyone says it is the best upgrade for any Porsche car in handling improvement, ease of installation (5 minutes), and better driving experience.

Anyone here have its own experience?

Thanks

My natural cynicism makes me feel like this is blatant advertising? 5 minute solution to our problems [:)] Snake oil anybody?

Apologies. I was suspicious as your first post was this one. I'm sure those with PASM will have a view.

What you driving?

I own a Cayman S 718 PSE, PASM + Sportdesign kit

Stage 1

I have read DSC improves a lot the street daily and the spirited driving.

That's why I came here asking.

My 997 is completely standard other than a DSC.

I haven‘t tweaked the map in the DSC but apparently this is also very easy.

The difference is tremendous, worth every penny in my view.

From my reading around it was very beneficial on 987 cars as the OEM PASM wasn't great. PASM on 981 cars was improved a lot so the DSC upgrade became less of a benefit unless you were heavily tracking the car and had a custom setup installed on it. As PASM has been tweaked yet again on the 982 I would imagaine it's even less of a benefit unless you really need a custom setup.

I considered one for my 981 but couldn't justify the cost. On the road in a 718 with the stock mapping applied I think I'd struggle even more to see how it was worth the money.

All IMHO of course!

They have been very popular with the 997 and other 911's and often appear in the for sale posts as owners move their cars on. But I have not seen much take up from 987 and 981 Cayman owners on the register. As Twinfan says, the ongoing development of PASM may be reducing the benefit, but they do potentially provide a greater range of adjustment for specific circumstances.

If any Cayman owners have fitted one it would be good to hear of your experiences.

I seem to recall there was a 981 GT4 owner who had it fitted and found it beneficial (with a custom map) but I think they subsequently removed it. Can't remember for the life of me who it was or where I read it though! It may have been on PH...

Ralph had this system on his modified 981

I have looked into it but not for Porsche, have always been been happy with the 981CS and GT4

The benefit of DSC depends on the car. On a cooking 981 it will not make much difference. On a 981 GT4 it adds greater compliance and for track use it provides an additional layer of adjustment. I suspect the compliance improvement is less on the 718 GT4.

Stock PASM dampers have a 100ms response time and don’t respond mid-stroke whereas the DSC has a 10ms response time. To get most out of the system you need faster active dampers.

The difference over stock and between different maps is noticeable on track. Writing maps is relatively simple but deciding what changes to make requires significant analysis and experimentation. I must have written over 100 maps and tried out 30; there is a limit to time and reflection on track days unlike Porsche with their zillions of engineering man hours.

If you’re going to fit one, I suggest you fit a permanent USB cable to the box so that your pre-written maps can be easily changed in a couple of minutes.

I don’t know if they have implemented more user friendly tools by now but I found tracking various maps and their installed versions required me to be very disciplined.

I found it a great product to make to most of my very modified suspension, allowing the running of high spring rates for track use without destroying road comfort (I did have a wife-suitable map). On track being able to use more sensor data than PASM and set damper stiffness behaviour for each of the (car’s) corners depending on G, speed, acceleration and deceleration made for better on-track handling.

In normal road use a number of the functions are not triggered unless over a customisable G threshold.

Did I ever get to a magic map, I would not say so. My experiences are covered over on the Modified Register forum.
