how much should a 944s cost to insure as my first car?????

ok, so i have a 44s which is great, and has been insured as my second car, now i dont have to drive to work anymore i dont need my primery car ,(shed), and the insurance is about to run out on this('90 vw jetta, worth nowt but wont fail an mot in four yr),will cost more than its worth to insure again.
now im after a ball park figure how much should insurance cost for making my 44s my first insured car, im 27, and not even sure if they will laugh at me if i try doing this[:)], or/and take me for everything iv not got.
I also want to start insuring my beetle soon and the whole issue worries me!! Insuring a group 20 car as my first car, eek, help, max miles 5k,
any quick figures much appreciated..... i have to phone em tomorrow
cheers JB

Well Jonny i'm travelling the opposite route to you by relegating my 944 to a second car. My renewal from Direct Line for a conventional Fully Comp policy with all the usual bells and whistles for about £550 and the 2nd car quote i've just got from AON is around £250 so that might be a rough indicator.

I'm 31 and only have 1 yr no claims due to being on a trade policy for several years, and I was quoted £490ish quid for Fire and theft....

Tried a classic policy (with Heritage), got fully comp with 10K miles a year limit ( if this isn't enough you could always disconnect the speedo, although I couldn't condone that[;)]) for £393 which I thought was quite good....

Nice one cheers guys, problem is im only 6months into my porsche insurance with performance direct, i'll have words with them and shop around and hope i wont get a quote that'll scare the bjesus out of me

my new gear gaiter is good but could be tighter around the shaft, leather shrinkage needed

I've insured mine through A manning UK for the last few years as my only car, 5k a year, garaged, agreed value and I'm 28 now and just paid £350. Down from last year too, might be worth giving them a call. Details in Porsche Post.

Get it insured 1) Classic car status with agreed value and limited mileage 2) Limit the mileage

Good luck regardless.

FWIW I am with Norton Insurance on their `Heritage` classic car policy.

I can never work out whats a good deal.
Just got new insurance for an 86 944. Agreed value £2500. 3000 miles per year.
Not garaged but on driveway. Track use. So far so good. This car has a 285 bhp blueprinted 3 litre S2 race engine.Special Quote : £160 including European/UK recovery. Am spending some money on it and will be giving Ins. company invoices to get agreed value up to around £4,500 so asked how much and was told an additional £20. We have two other vehicles all on 3k miles per year and all on agreed values £23k/£7.5k and Euro/uk recovery garaged and all with Heritage this year. Both cars roughly the same at £340. My advice is ring everybody but make sure of a level playing ground on your quotes and get them to itemise everything. Recovery : Euro, U.K. or both. Agreed Value. What mileage. Garage, private driveway or street. Track day cover inc or not. Then only buy what you need. Age and area is the only parameter you cant mess with. Unless of course the car is kept garaged at your parents who just happen to live in the Outer Hebrides !!! [:D]

That got my interest!!! Any chance for some more details? Perhaps we should start a new thread to save it from going off topic.

On topic [;)]: Agreed with all of the above. When I was renewing recently, for fun I got an online quote at circa £300 for an unmodified car driven 10K miles which I thought was great. I'm the wrong side of 30 which may help a bit I suppose. Needless to say the modifications I have mean that my insurance is 3 times that amount [] [:(] []

so, as my first car, 5k/yr, car worth £3500, well i got quotes starting at £1267, then 1064, then with a manning for 496.50, which i like considering my age and points situation[:)] , not due to speeding either.
Then i got bored of phoning folk,

so, as my first car, 5k/yr, car worth £3500, garaged, standard 1988 944s, £496 seems good, oh on condition i join this club, which i certainly dont mind, you guys are awsome help!!!!
Oh am i supposed to tell them i fitted cup 2s to it? i forgot about that
JB

I'd definately let them know about any modification. Wheels shouldn't be too costly to add (be sure to stress to them you're just changing from one Porsche alloy to another, it may help them understand that it shouldn't make much difference - worth a try anyway!).
