Dura metric cable

Hi,
Could anyone tell me please whether these would be recommended for my C2 1998 as I would like to diagnose faults as I feel this could create some significant cost savings.
1. Porsche diagnostic equipment OBD cable 911 boxster cayman cayenne 996 997 piwis cable and software
2. Porsche OBD 2 scanner dura metric style piwis 996 986 997 987 carrera boxster. This version comes as version 3. Whilst the software comes free I believe the cables are approx £350. This cable is not dura metric branded but is a copy which is compatible with version 3.

Sorry, but both are on eBay at a steal. Is this possible or should they be avoided.
Thanks

I bought one of these of ebay a few months ago and it works fine with my 986 used it to reset my airbag light

Any chance of posting a link to the E Bay site please? Looking to purchase the same sort of kit to save a trip to my Indie for minor stuff. Any help appreciated. Dave S

As you say, they are Chinese clones of the old Durametric Version 5 cable. If you buy one, my advice is to use the software provided, and don't try to update it with genuine software from the Durametric site. They seem to work OK, but if you look at the version history on the Durametric site, you will see all the bug fixes and updates they added between V3 and V5. The V6 cable is a whole lot better, especially if you think you might update your Porsche to a later model in the future. Think of it as a longer term inverstment, perhaps.

here is the seller I bought mine off got it for £80 posted didn't come with fancy box as shown just a home copied cd of software and the lead, works ok on my old 986 but had to use the 993 setting to reset airbag light which must have came on when I installed my obc, i'm just saying it worked for me but it's upto you if you want to risk it
