Dynamique duo upto no good again!

From one money pit to another. Boy, do we get a hard time from home - all our own doing of course, and they really don't understand.

Images later, but the pair of muppets (Waldorf and Statler?) have bought an e30 each! What for, well we have these grand ideas of going racing next year....and a third may join us as well. The two cars (knackers by our Porsche standards) are both sat on my drive, neighbours thinking tinks have moved in, and probably sick of the revving engines.

Just as Winter encroaches, and all we want to do when we get home from work is sit in front of the fire, TV on and do bugger all, we now have to fully prep cars for racing.

We took the trackday thing as far as we could, perhaps a little too much aggression and competition between us at times, thought this racin lark is 'easy', if somewhat expensive, looked at how we could do it on the cheap, visitied a couple of race meetings and went off and bought a car each. We possibly have 20 wheels between us already!!!!

So, although we have secured a deal on 5 trackdays for next year, the planned - and hopefully entertaining - tales from JP and Dave will have 'Porsche' replaced by 'BMW'........is it at this point we have togo and find another forum? We're already talking about how 'competitive' we may get with each other on circuit, albeit at the back of the grid.

The 968's....i don't know....at the moment it has been abandoned to the garage, will hopefully make an appearance or two on a track near you next year, but i suspect that we will be thrashing the living daylights out of cars with half the power (and 1125kg total weight inc driver). Is this the end of an era for our 968's? Hopefully not, but i am sure you will be pleased to hear the comparisons, the knocks, the offs, and what it looks like up at the ack of the grid.

All the best

JP

Sounds like a plan you two. Best of luck with it all. What series will you be going for?

I do wonder at some trackday people, the ones who have £60k to £100k's worth of trackcar and manage a lot of days, why they don't move on to racing?
It got a bit like that with the old blue CS. I was very close to going hillclimbing with it but considered the PCGB need a seperate set of classes for the front engined cars to encourage cheaper motorsport and familys into the joys of a good day out with your car. Seems biased towards the 911, surprise surprise.

Oh yes, I bagsy all your spare 968 wheels you won't need anymore[;)][;)][;)]

Cheers
Dave

If JP and Dave sold all their sets of 968 wheels, the price of 968 wheels would go down, as the market would be flooded with them [;)]

I can see the sense in getting an E30 for a track/race car. Nice and simple, well built and have a good balance.

I take it that you have bought 325I's?

Nice oner JP...
2010 here we come, with renewed vigor......[;)][:D]

We will be entering the PBMW champs, which is for E30 cars, of 318 or 320 engine capacities....
The 320,s are a tad bit heavier , but thats allowed for within the weight restrictions....
The grids are VERY full, having around 40 cars lining up , sometimes theres that many entered they have to run 2 races....
The membership fees are cheap, as are the race entry fees...
As are the running costs....EG £250 for a set of tyres, as upposed to £900 / set for the 968,s....
Marv.
Yes you might be right on the wheel front....+ I / We may have to liquidate some "stock" to finance the coming year....
I thought the spares in my garage might just reduce this next year, but ive a feeling itl get worse, as ill have a WHOLE heap more bits for a E30 now....
Good job my new "toy shed" is nearing completion....
Anyway. its onward + upward....[:D][:D][:D]

being quick on a TD does not in any way shape or form mean that you'll be a quick racer. most of the fly boys with £100K cars wouldnt last 2 laps in a proper race and then they'd look silly... so they'll continue to buy their way to the top of the TD laptimes.

Keep us posted Dave/Jason we'll have to arrange a 968 outing to watch you guys race your sheds!! and maybe start a fight in the car park.... [:D][:D]

Lali, you couldn't fight your way out of a paper bag - but I'd pay good money to watch you have a go [8D]

A meet at a race sounds like fun [:D]

Will do Lali. Re sheds, i know where you are coming from....forgot what corrosion looked like, and a slight tap on track will knock the filler out. Certainly under no illusions of grandeur with this one...hence to remarks re the back of the grid. We will have quite a learning curve to go through, and expect the competition will be very strong. Of course there was two models to chose from...and we have the power bug so went for the bigger of the two engines......and the one that understeers more.

We're really getting into it, and even at this level the car/prep costs are not low - we're still looking at c£5-6k to get on the grid.

One more problem at home......i went from owning two cars last weekend.....to four this weekend. I bought another e30 yesterday, so have two to chose from. I mentioned problem.....she went up the wall with me! Need to explain to her yet that i may break one. Some hedges are coming down this weekend to accomodate...need to explain this one to her as well.

Will take some photos at the weekend - of the shenanigans.....5 car's at JP's house + Daves e30 (at my house) + Dave's daily + trailer. It will be like one of those puzzles with the moving squares!

It sounds like you and Big Dave have more used BM's than Sytner. Look forward to the pics :) What mods do they allow you to do ?

A couple of teasers...

Alot of the interior stripped out, immobiliser removed and a good start on reducing wiring. Cooling system out, then back in, power steering removed. Low mileage donor engine, box, diff to go in at some point. Lots to do.

Hey!! I've got a black belt in keyboard kung fu....

I'll put some more pictures up soon.

Interior all stripped with sound deadening removed. Excess wiring/accessories removed (within regs of course) - central locking, interior lights etc etc, tidied and rewrapped. Main loom to engine has to be replaced due to some of it having shorted out at some point in the past - amazed it still run. The spare car is almost stripped down; block+head, diff, front suspension still to come off when it warms up!!!

Cage , fire system, sump baffle awaiting collection/delivery. New seat, harness, hans in spare room. Suspension and brakes after Xmas.

Found a large rust hole - well not found, knew there was a small one....you get the picture. Need to prep a few bits over Xmas (neighbours will love the sound of the angle grinder) ready for welding and cage installation.

I know, i know, useless without pictures....its just so cold outside - and in the garage - but will get posting some.

Believe Dave has finally started his too - might like a pcture of hits large pile of bits.
