Dyno Update

This is what I did today.

Even the AFRs are OK - its a little rich above 4600rpm. There is probably not much more than 5hp left on the table and that is not really enough for me to worry about.

Fantastic results Richard - well done.

I have e-mailed with Steve Wong as my car was stalling when dipping the clutch coming to a stop - he said I needed to raise the idle to 880rpm which I have done and it appears OK.

I am going to get myself back to Weltmeister to see how his chip has worked or not for me.

Can I ask - how much do they charge for a single session as opposed to going in a group, and will they do anything to the car whilst there to try and 'tune it' if the dyno readings show that adjustments could make a difference ?

I am nervous about going again having made 240 first time there - my SW chip may have reduced power, but if it has, then I will send the sheets to SW and he will re-chip for free so nothing to get too concerned about.

Great result Richard. So is that tinkering finished for now ? Have you got the cage in yet ? Finally picking my car up from 911 Bodyshop tomorrow - hopefully Steve is doing the geo set up today. Can't wait. I'm doing Bedford on Sat 5th Nov with Easytrack to have a play around with my new adjustable ARBs - do you fancy it ? See just what a difference an extra 30 ponies makes !

Ian, call Alan and have a chat. Mine was a straight test but if you want to swap chips etc and retest, he will work out a price.

Jamie, still waiting on the cage and currently too noisy for Bedford - though working on that as well. Also, I don't have any track tyres right now. My wife just had a baby 12 days ago, so its all a bit hectic round here.

caio,
Richard

Richard,
I've got a lovely set of Colway Traxtars in just your size [:)] ! Congratulations on the new arrival - didn't know that was in the pipeline (as it were !!!).
I'm too moisy for Bedford too, but for some reason I seem to be ok on the driveby monitors. Maybe I just drive like a wuss !

Congrats Richard on your new addition!

Had the pleasure of meeting you and your wife when I picked up your wheels. Hope they are both doing well.

Congrats Richard on your new arrival, hope your wife and baby are well.

Impressive figures for your car, is that it for now on the engine side or do you have other plans.

Cheers

Steve

Steve Wong thinks there is another 5-8hp in the chip given the rich AFRs over 4600rpm - so that gets to 265hp. I am flat out busy at work and at home right now so not much time for anything. Next items on the car agenda are in no particular order and with no particular completion date:

- instal cage
- duck tail
- 911R rear lights
- install RS carpet set
- new harnesses
- fit downturns to tail pipes to tone down the noise for track days
- RS door panels
- new track tyres
- refurb wheels or buy 17s

On the maybe list are plastic bumpers and on the wish list are throttle bodies and engine management which might get me to 285+hp. My only real regret so far is deciding not to do the lightweight flywheel while doing clutch and pressure plate. Otherwise its all been money well spent.

Richard,

Having been to WSC and run my custom chip today, your AFR still looks very low (down the graph) compared to mine - in fact there is as much to come in your new graph as I have just had - i.e. it can go up to 0.88 which SW told me was ideal.

I know I know about 1% of what you do on the 911, but I think your estimate of 5bhp more is conservative - SW said I would get 5 and he gave me 16 !!!

I was at Weltmeister on Friday with my German spec 9.5:1 CR 217PS DIN (i.e. US spec 930/25) to see what swapping the factory ceramic cat with a Dansk stainless steel pre-muffler (£139.00 plus £30.00 fitting kit) and a 95 RON Steve Wong chip would do (both had been fitted a few days earlier by Steve Winter at JAZ who also, bless him, dissuaded me from replacing the factory back box with a Dansk 70mm jobbie, as he felt the innards are the same and mine had only superficial rust and was, infact, made of stainless steel (the car, by the way , has done 90,000 klms). I can well imagine your delight, Ian, when your results started to appear on the monitor outside the dyno room, as I could not believe mine.... At best I was expecting about 225 to 230, i.e. what a 10.3:1 engine should make......
Well, thanks I believe mostly to Steve Wong's expertise the result was 247.3 bhp and a pretty flat torque curve between 4500 rpm and 6000 rpm with an equally flat lambda of 0.84 between 4000 and 6,500 rpm. All this on 95 RON.

I, like you, will be sending the graphs to Steve for his evaluation, but Chris and Allan at Weltmeister thought these were very satisfactory results for what is basically an off-the -shelf chip.

Again, congratulations Ian and Richard on your results.

Yes, I need to get back to SW but I have been travelling last week. Add it to the to-do list...

If he gets even 5 more hp then I am still happy, 10+ would be fantastic. I would think I am pretty close to the limit on a number of things though now. 9M reckon the injection is a limitation and the std 3.2 intake runners must start to be a limitation. Also the SSIs are a tad small for ultimate hp. Not sure when I will get back to Weltmeister to test it either.
