Can we not give register holders permission to release limited or full information about the car when putting the car on the register? Can the forms not be modified for the future at least, otherwise what is the point? You might as well not bother.
Short answer is probably no. I'm not sure how you could give permission for "some or all of the information you give may be given out at the discretion of an unelected volunteer to any other third party without knowing who they are or why they want the information"!! I'd guess that most people would simply refuse to allow details, that can be personal, to be freely available.
In the longer term, the new website is on it's way. ( See many threads in the "members only" section....[]) Part of the plan, and one of the reasons it needs to be secure, is that members will be able to access their own details and update them.
The Register database has it's uses, for instance when we needed a Guards Red Cab for an exhibition we could access all the cars in the Club, and sort by area. It is obviously more relevant to the registers with rare or unusual models - but as a resource it's still useful to me. I also take the common sense view that, as in the question that started this thread, sometimes the info held is already in the public arena so can be used without bringing down the full weight of the Data Protection Police!

It's just that I am helping a mate buy his first Porsche (with limited funds) and would not like him to have too many unforeseen problems.
The car is on a garage forecourt and in local papers........so no problem posting the reg.
The car salesman said they purchased it with 6 others that were part exchanged to a Porsche dealer in Scotland.
Then he said.....................No warranty, its not ours (as advertised). Its someone who works here so won't be going through the books. I have no reason to disbelieve, But I have heard this many times.
Car looks good, drives well. Usual problems - Heater, drivers window, wet carpet.
History missing for last 3 years, Loads spent previously. Think it will have to have belts and water pump.
Bit concerned about the gap between bonnet and wings, that Wide you can see the wing bolts!
IT HAS PORSCHE CLUB CARPETS...............so somebody has cherished it[]

Sounds to me that the dealer doesn't want to register the car so that he will not be required to declare the purchase and sale to Customs & Excise and won't need to provide a warrantee. Make a quick buck at your friend's expense.
If there is no history for past three years your friend has to assume it has had no servicing or repairs. You will need to allow the cost of a service and new belts and tensioner possibly water pump also. I would suggest allowing £650 for the work to be done at a local Porsche specialist or possibly £1000 at the official Porsche dealership (not incl waterpump).
Without seeing the car its difficult to estimate value but based on the 50 or so cars I have looked at this year I would suggest about £2,250 tops allowing £650 for the work on top

thats the trouble with these gorgeous supercars. They are being picked up for relative shirtbuttons by owners that cannot afford the routine servicing and preventative maintenance costs. They only seem interested in thrashing it around thelanes until something breaks As soon as it fails the MOT or picks up an expensive bill they pass it on to another unsuspecting owner.
Every now and then along comes an enthusiast who lavishes the right amount of care on the car and these are becoming rarer by the month.
I was so lucky last month to pick up another late S" which is in magnificent condition. I kept the last one 9 years and I doubt this one will ever be for sale again.
