Early 1973 Porsche 911 2.7 RS Carrera on Dyno

Looks a lot like the white RS I saw a couple of days ago at Swindon OPC - alongside an orange '73 RS, the chartreuse green '73 RS, my white 964RS and a 993RS.

Air-cooled RSs were a little common that day. [:)]

aren't they great.... dug mine out of the garage this morning and did the commute to my office in central london. despite not being used for 3 months it didn't miss a beat, strong as an ox.

The one on the Dyno looks like the ex-David Gilhooley RST.

Porsche Swindon do look after several early, and later, RSs. The white lhd RST you may have seen is probably the one that they boughtrecently to prep and retail.

Having had my car on your rolling road before that looks familier. Thanks for sharing Bob.

Ian.

PS That is the ex DG RS. Very nice.

I presume the figure of 229 bhp is at the flywheel and not at the rear wheels ? what power figure would be recorded at the rear wheels ? Or the other way round if the 229 bhp is at the rear wheels what might the figure be at the flywheel ? anyone know?

Hi Robin , my understanding is that the figure quoted is at the flywheel . This compares to the factory quoted figure of 210 , hence the comment that the 229 is a good figure .The power at the wheels will be 35-40 hp less .
My tuned 2.4S engine was on Bob's dyno this week and recorded 210 at the flywheel at 7200 rpm [:)] .....and 170 at the wheels .

That sounds good, my 2.4S on Atspeeds road a week ago showed 151 bhp at the wheels at 5500 rpm and has good driveability, so your figure of 35 to 40 hp at the flywheel puts my engine around what the book says it should be. As a thought how accurate are Rolling Roads when compared with one another as a percentage variation ?
